Edinburgh Castle, an ancient stronghold on the Castle Rock in the centre of the city of Edinburgh, has been in use by assorted military forces since prehistoric times and only transferred from the Ministry of Defence recently. It lies at the top of Edinburgh High Street, also known as the Royal Mile. Holyrood Palace lies at the bottom.

The picture shows a part of the building within the inner courtyard which contains the museum and the Scottish Crown Jewels.
