Dan Debicella is a politician and businessman currently representing the 21st district in the Connecticut State Senate. He is a Republican. The district consists of Shelton, most of Stratford, part of Monroe, and part of Seymour. He has held the seat since 2007, when he succeeded George "Doc" Gunther.

State Senator

Debicella was first elected to the Connecticut State Senate in 2006, when he defeated Democrat Chris Jones, 52.2% to 47.8%, in a bid to succeed George "Doc" Gunther, the longest-serving state legislator in Connecticut history.

In 2008, the League of Conservation Voters gave Debicella a 58% rating on their annual scorecard, the lowest in the State Senate.

Debicella was re-elected in 2008 when he defeated his opponent, Democrat Janice Andersen, 54.4% to 45.6%.

Personal

Debicella was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and raised in Shelton, where he currently resides. He graduated from Shelton High School in 1992. He holds a degree in finance from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Debicella is currently director of strategy for PepsiCo. Previously, he ran an online business called Textbooks Online and served as a management consultant with McKinsey & Co.

Prior to being elected State Senator, Debicella served on Shelton’s Board of Apportionment and Taxation for seven years; the last four as its chairman. He currently serves as a board member for Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut, the Birmingham Group, and the Shelton/Derby Boys & Girls Club.

Debicella is a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Shelton. He is married to Alexandra Galli-Debicella. They have no children.
