American actress, born 28 September 1972 in Los Angeles. Though she is the daughter of producer Bruce Paltrow and actress Blythe Danner, she studied Art History before committing herself to acting. Her debut film was Shout (1991) and she played in Steven Spielberg's Hook (1991). She played in Se7en (1995) and she began dating her co-star Brad Pitt. Their relationship was much publicized, just like their break-up two years later. Her magnificient performance in Emma (1996) was followed by a role in Shakespeare in Love (1998), for which she was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress
