Hollister Co. is a clothing store that targets 14-25 year olds. The Hollister concept was formed during 2000, and the first store was opened in 2002 at the Topanga Canyon Mall in Canoga, CA.It is an offshoot of Abercrombie & Fitch. It is named after Hollister Ranch, located near Santa Barbara, California. Many in the Southern California surfer community have taken great offense to Abercrombie & Fitch's exploitation of their local culture, however Hollister has proven to be an enormous marketing success throughout the United States. Much like its parent, Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister sells somewhat predictable clothing: polos, cargo shorts, skirts, jeans, humorous tees, and athletic pants. Hollister also is known for its use of sex to advertise their products (but to a lesser degree than Abercrombie). For example, pictures of scantily clad models appear in the stores.
Hollister also implentmented a rewards program called Club Cali to reward their customers. The program starts off with a Red card at the $0-$500 levels. Once a Red cardholder hits the $500 mark, Hollister will send them a personalized Gold Card, and when the $1000 level is reached, Gold becomes Platinum. The Club Cali program used to send a $20 off coupon for every $250 spent, but Hollister has eschewed this perk in favor of the new Stash program, which has mechandise such as autographed CDs by bands like The Killers and such. Club Cali was the inspiraton for the AE All Access Pass program implented by American Eagle Outfitters.
Hollister is also a city in California. Though many articles of Hollister Co. apparel bear the phrase "Hollister, CA" or "Hollister, Calif.," the town is an hour inland and has no connection with the company.
Hollister is a very trendy and popular store. Many young teens can apply for jobs there and receive good pay. This store has California style with some edge! Along with this, the store has a very hard to resist feeling as you walk into the store you seem to enter a "tiki hut" style building. It's unique setup helps teens find what they want or need. |
