Naftna industrija Srbije or simply NIS (Serbian: Нафтна индустрија Србије - НИС, Naftna industrija Srbije - NIS; Russian: Нефтяная индустрия Сербии, Template:Lang-en) is an oil company from Serbia.
The company's main business is the exploration of gas and oil in Serbia (mainly in Vojvodina) for and the production, importing, processing, transportation and marketing of hydrocarbons (oil and gas). NIS has its headquarters in Novi Sad, in NIS building.
Organisation structure
Company is divided into four sectors:
- NIS-Naftagas
- NIS-Petrol, which include: oil refineries in Pančevo and Novi Sad, and oil and gas distribution;
- NIS-TNG, which include parts of companies that deals with gas;
- NIS-Tourism, which include companies resorts, hotels and restaurants.
Assets
In 2007 NIS had a profit of approximately 9 billion RSD (US$ 170 million) and 262 billion RSD (US$ 5 billion) of revenues.
It has 13000 employees, 500 gas stations across Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. 1600 internally serviced gas stations, 8 large terminals, 44 warehouses and air fuel pumping facility at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport.
Pančevo Oil Refinery (yearly refines of 4.8m tones of crude oil) and Novi Sad Oil Refinery (yearly refines of 2.6m tones of crude oil) are owned by NIS and gas Refinery in Elemir, near Novi Sad.
In 2007 NIS contributed to Serbian budget with approximately US$1.2 billion.
Privatisation
The privatisation of NIS started in 2007. Several companies, including Gazprom Neft, MOL, OMV, Hellenic Petroleum, Rompetrol and Lukoil expressed interest to acquire the company. On 25 January 2008, Serbia and Russia signed an agreement giving 51% of NIS's shares to Gazprom for US$400 million and US$500 in investments until 2012. This agreement was not welcomed by everyone in Serbia. Adjoining contracts signed with Gazprom are the contact about inclusion of Serbia in the South Stream project and the construction of a gas reserve facility in Banatski Dvor. On December 24, 2008 final contract between the Government of Serbia and Gazprom were signed. In January 2009 about 15%-25% of remaining shares of NIS will be part of largest ever, free distribution of shares by the Serbian government to the Serbian citizens.
