Royal Rumble (2009) is a forthcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which is scheduled to take place on January 25, 2009, at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan. The event will be the 22nd event produced under the Royal Rumble name and will feature wrestlers from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands. Three professional wrestling matches are currently scheduled on the event's card.

Wrestlers will portray a villain or a hero as they follow a series of events that build tension, and culminate into a wrestling match or series of matches. All wrestlers will be from the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands–a storyline division in which WWE employees are assigned to different television programs of the same name.
The main event will feature the Royal Rumble match, which has been held in every Royal Rumble event since its inception. The match will feature 30 wrestlers from WWE's three brands; no participants have been announced for the match.
