Mike Halterman is a 23-year-old freelance journalist born in Jacksonville, Florida. He considers himself "a Southern boy" and grew up in "L.A." (no, the only angels there were angels of death). He graduated from the IB Diploma Programme at Pensacola High School in Pensacola, Florida in 2004.
Since then he has pursued a degree in journalism and a minor in French language at the University of South Florida. He interned with the Wikimedia Foundation offices as a public relations consultant during the summer of 2007, and just finished a freelance contract providing nightlife correspondence in the Tampa area for the Gannett Company.
Mike first joined the English Misplaced Pages in June 2004. He became an administrator in September 2004, with 64 supporters (the record at that time, although many people have breezed past that since then). From June 2004 to June 2005 he was known by the user name TheCustomOfLife, and was still known by that name on other Wikis until he created a unified login for himself in June 2008.
On the English Misplaced Pages, Mike created the WikiProject on soap operas, and he is involved in the WikiProjects on Florida and the Eurovision Song Contest. He has written over 1,000 articles on Misplaced Pages over four years, and has had over 30 "Did you know?" entries showcased on the Main Page.
In addition, Mike organized the attempt to have Wikimania 2008 held in Atlanta, Georgia, but came in second place during judging to Alexandria, Egypt. Currently, he is putting plans together to help the Danish community create their own chapter, Wikimedia Danmark.
Mike is a prolific contributor to the English Wikinews, to which he has been registered since April 2005. He began a series of entertainment and culture-related interviews with various subjects in November 2007, which is still ongoing.
Here are some language skills I have.
