Thomas Matthew DeLonge (b. December 13 1975), better known as Tom DeLonge is one of the founding members of, and the guitarist with, blink-182.
At fourteen DeLonge was suspended from his high school in Poway, California for drinking and being drunk during a school football game. A few years later he was elected prom king, to the anger of school officials. Before forming blink-182, DeLonge was in a band called Big Oily Men, but soon realized that it was going nowhere, and broke it up. While still at school, he met Mark Hoppus through Hoppus's sister Anne, and together with Scott Raynor the three formed blink-182 in late 1992. In 1998 blink-182's drummer, Raynor, left the band and was replaced by Travis Barker.
DeLonge had a side project with fellow band member Travis Barker called Box Car Racer. They released one album together before breaking up the band in 2003 to focus more on blink-182.
On May 26 2001 he married his long-time girlfriend Jennifer Jenkins, and now the couple have a daughter called Ava. Blink-182 took a break from performing and recording in February 2005. A rumor was started that they had broken up, but this was denied by Travis Barker, who explained: "We needed some family time".
DeLonge plays his own signature Fender Stratocaster guitar. Because of blink 182's punkish music style, his guitar's configuration differs to a large extent from the regular Stratocasters. It features a single Seymour Duncan Invader humbucker pickup coupled with a single knurled volume knob instead of the usual triple single-coil pickups with one volume and two tone-control knobs. It also eliminates the use of a tremolo arm stop piece, replacing it with a simpler hardtail stop piece.
News has come from a BBC Radio One Foo Fighters interview that DeLonge might be starting his own solo album: "Tom from Blink is recording right now actually, recording the drums for his new record". It has also been recently revealed by Delonge himself that his new band, Angels and Airwaves, has almost finished its first album, which should be released in early 2006.
There will be a blink-182 greatest hits album in November 2005.
