Jhonny González (born September 15, 1981 in Pachuca, Hidalgo) is a Mexican professional boxer. He has a record of 34-6 (with 29 wins by KO).

Pro Career

On October 29, 2005, González defeated Ratanachai Sor Vorapin by TKO on 7th rounds, for the WBO bantamweight championship. On May 27, 2006, he defended it successfully against Fernando Montiel by a 2-1 split decision.

While still holding the title he won from Sor Vorapin, Gonzalez went up in weight and attempted to capture the WBC super-bantamweight title on September 16, 2006. He, however, lost to Israel Vázquez by knockout.

His second defense of his WBO bantamweight title was also successful as González bested former IBF flyweight champ Irene Pacheco on March 30, 2007. On his third defense however, Gonzalez was dethroned by 35 year old Gerry Penalosa knocked him out in the 7th round on August 11 that year.

Personal

The unusual spelling is because his father made a mistake in the spelling when he registered his son's birth to the public office.
