ABCD is taking a long wikibreak and will be back on Misplaced Pages some time later.
No Soliciting: In other words, do not post advertisments, etc. to my talk page, if you must, do so here. Note: This page is on the English Misplaced Pages. If you are from anywhere else, please mention that in your message. Also, if you are not looking at this page on wikipedia.org, then the page is probably out of date. I archive whenever I feel like it. Period. End of sentence. However, I will not delete (non-vandalism) comments. In addition, if you want me to reply on your talk page, please make a note of that in your message.

Please post new messages at the bottom of my talk page. Please use headlines when starting new talk topics. Thank you.

Warning:Javascript security issue

Hi! I need to inform you that I've protected Misplaced Pages:WikiProject_User_scripts/Scripts/Sigdash because it allows users to add code to the javascript of other users. If you are an admin, you are still able to edit it, but if you are not an admin, please copy and paste it into your userspace to continue modifying it. We can set up a message at the old javascript page telling users to change their links. If you need help, please contact me or User:Eagle_101. Thanks, --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs 01:48, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

A right to vanish request

Hi, I once used my real name as my username. I happen to have a family name which is quite rare in my local language, which subsequently make my full name unique. Due to this silly error, I was once harassed by a fellow wikipedian who digged my personal information from internet. He was subsequently warned. I stopped editing wikipedia actively since then. I would like to request right to vanish so that, at least, my name don't pop up in google search. Am I in the right place to make this request? (Untitled by Gp75motorsports)

Hi. I'm setting up a shop and was wondering if you'd like to become our assistant userscripts developer. If you do, then all you've got to do is go here and add your name. If not, then just tell me so. Thanks! --Gp75motorsports 20:17, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

We need some admin help here, Should I add the above link to relevant articles (like electric motor). Some users consider it a spam, while it is relevant. please check it.62.139.238.152 (talk) 09:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

TOR block of 72.21.33.202

Hey, I noticed that you've blocked 72.21.33.202, as a TOR node, which, it is no longer. I was wondering, if you'd consider either allowing me to unblock it, or, unblocking it yourself please. SQL 20:49, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Unblocked. – ABCD 04:53, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

DC Meetup on May 17th

Bot activity

I was going over the list of bots and noticed that ABot (talk · contribs) has not edited in a very long time. Is this bot still active and if not, would you object to it being de-flagged? Please post your comments to Wikipedia_talk:Bots/Requests_for_approval#Dead_bots since this is a rather widely-posted message. MBisanz 06:38, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Bot policy

There is currently a question over the phrasing in Bot policy about it Bots can empty categories. Way back in 2005 this edit add the clause in question , but it doesn't specify what the certain types of person categories are. Do you remember the context of that change? MBisanz 00:35, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

The "certain types of person categories" would be those typed as "Non-'Business Card'", per this edit from mid-2005. I might be able to clarify more if you were to tell me where this conversation was taking place, so that I would know exactly what is at issue. While it has been a while, I still do remember a bit about policies concerning bots around that time (considering that that was when I started using mine...). – ABCD 05:19, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Generally the area about half way throug this section Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Betacommand#Bot_needs_to_be_fixed, you can pick my comments out by my sig. MBisanz 05:24, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Personally, I do not remember any reason why automated removal of categories was ever an issue, especially if the reason was that the category does not actually exist. I also cannot find any discussion of the "minor rephrase", which makes it look like it was a unilateral policy change that was not contested, because, at that time, there were many edits being made to the page which were not actually policy changes, as the list of running bots was, at that time, maintained on that page. At this point, it looks like the only reason that wording is still used is due to inertia. – ABCD 05:46, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, the lack of institutional memory is a problem with Misplaced Pages and I'm glad at least you were around from that era and policy page. MBisanz 05:50, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Recall clerking

I've noticed you around as a cool head whose editing doesn't intersect with my own that much. I'd like to list you as a clerk option at User:MBisanz/Recall for people to select from when invoking my recall criteria. Is that ok with you? MBisanz 04:16, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

That is fine with me. – ABCD 21:47, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Recall

So I've been recalled at User:MBisanz/Recall#Clerks. I don't quite see how I abused block powers, since the filer has never been blocked, but yea, it is clerk time now. MBisanz 21:16, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

DC Meetup Events: You're invited!

Misplaced Pages Loves Art! (February 27)

The Smithsonian American Art Museum will be holding a Misplaced Pages Loves Art! meetup on Friday, February 27 from 5-7 pm in the Kogod Courtyard. This is a photography event involving Wikipedians, along with Flickr users and others, to generate content for Misplaced Pages. Come share your experiences, meet the other teams, and take some photos! While RSVPing isn't necessary drop Jeff Gates an email if you're planning on attending so he can get a head count: gatesj (at) si.edu. There also is a signup list here, along with detailed information. The museum is conveniently located across from the Gallery Place-Chinatown metro station.

DC 6th Meetup (March 7)

The DC 6th meetup will take place on March 7th at Pizzeria Uno's at Union Station, one level up from the main floor. The meetup will start at 5pm, and people usually stick around there for several hours. You can RSVP at Misplaced Pages:Meetup/DC 6.

This has been an automated because you your name was on the invite list. BrownBot (talk) 16:16, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

AbuseFilter 61

Did you try to alter the filter? If you did, you probably were just unlucky. I was not aware you tried to change anything. If you do change something please let me know what it is so I can see its effect on the log. - Mgm| 13:41, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

  • Are you sure (!("http://en.wikipedia.org" in removed_lines) | "http://en.wikipedia.org" in added_lines) works like it is supposed to. The string should be in the removed lines, not be in the added lines and if that occurs the filter should be stopped. RIght now it stops if the string occurs in either the removed or added lines which is not the intended effect. - Mgm| 13:53, 19 March 2009 (UTC)
  • By DeMorgan's laws, that rewrite changed only how it looks, not how it behaves - if the intended effect was other than "if URL added, flag; else if URL not removed, flag; else don't flag", then the original was just as broken --ABCD
  • It did change how it behaves because (!added_lines & removed_lines) is not the same as (added_lines & !removed_lines). The intended use was to ignore the change if the removed ref contained a external link to Misplaced Pages - Mgm| 18:35, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

OTRS verification question

First time I've needed to do this - and haven't a clue on where to do this! The question is on File:Nilkanth Varni.JPG ; the uploader is claiming it's under a "blanket" OTRS, ticket number otrs:2008101410045759. Can you clue me in on how to verify this, and thus restore the image? Thanks much! Skier Dude (talk) 03:33, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

I just checked the ticket, and while it does claim blanket permission, that permission does not include this image, simply because, so far as I can see, that image did not come from the site giving permission. For future reference, that site is http://swaminarayan.org.in/. – ABCD 07:53, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
