User talk here is not archived. Old talk is deleted. Users are allowed to remove anything from their talk pages. See WP:TALK and other wikipedia guidelines/policies. Like Misplaced Pages articles over time, people change, and there is little point in referring to past stale arguments and discussions.

To keep the discussion in one thread some comments added here are moved to the user talk page of the author. I reply there. I also watchlist that talk page for awhile in order to note when the user there replies. Harassing comments are also sometimes moved off this talk page. Sometimes the original author is offended by their own harassing comments, and my reply, on their user talk page. They then remove both from their talk page. I guess the light from their own verbal reflection offends them. One can find removed comments by using the history link on a talk page. Inappropriately-applied warning templates, etc.. are also removed from this talk page. Sometimes I remove stuff from my talk page for no particular reason, or for many varied reasons. Removal of comments from my talk page implies nothing. Don't take it personally. Unless I have requested otherwise feel free to leave new messages on my talk page.

Help

Since you're an active user, I thought I'd ask you. This is regarding discussion at Talk:International_reaction_to_the_2008–2009_Israel–Gaza_conflict#Attacks.

The user made a weird comment,, and responded "Yes", when I asked him if it was a personal attack. It seems to me that discussion can get no where with such an attitude. Could you take a look at the discussion and make a comment as an uninvolved user?VR talk 21:02, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Could you tell me how can we edit writings on a PNG file? Actually, I wanna translate the words of the map Syria into Turkish language. Do you know how to work on such files? Thanks for update--Tuleytula (talk) 22:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

No, seriously

Are you seriously interested in using sources to chart the casualties on a daily basis since the start of the conflict?

The reason I'm asking is that I can't do this alone (as this requires quite a bit of meticulous research), but can make a significant contribution. Are you interested?VR talk 01:10, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Ok when you create such an image, someone is bound to ask you for justification. So I've created a template here (I hope you don't mind) and will begin adding info there.VR talk 01:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)
"I don't have the energy to do a daily breakdown." I guess now you understand why I said "I can't do this alone".VR talk 02:22, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey Timeshifter. I noticed the battle between the 3 or 4 Israeli civilian casualties. The discrepancy between the references arises from the fact that one of the people killed in a rocket attack before the ground invasion started was an off-duty soldier. Some sources list him as a civilian and some as a soldier. I'll try to find a source that explains that, but I thought you should know that's the reason for the other editors change. Israeli casualties

Look, I live in Israel, I report only real up-to-this-moment numbers of casualties. So, to this moment it is 10 + 3. Out of 10 soldiers 9 KIA and the first IDF casualty was because of mortar fire before ground operation began. 3 Civilians. Flayer (talk) 21:37, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Accidently, I found one, but in Hebrew: . Flayer (talk) 23:19, 8 January 2009 (UTC)
It says: 10 soldiers killed, 7 soldiers severely wounded, 10 soldier moderately and 76 soldiers lightly wounded. Flayer (talk) During the night 2 more soldiers lightly wounded . Flayer (talk) 07:12, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

yo, we lost a ton of recently added stuff with the last edit you did. I dont know how to get the stuff back between the archive and the, for lack of a better word, unarchive. Do you know how we can handle this? Im just going to revert the edit and hopefully for now, sorry if I shouldnt. Nableezy (talk) 01:57, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

List of Palestinian fatalities resulting from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in 2008

I'd appreciate it if you could have a look at List of Palestinian fatalities resulting from Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip in 2008 and make any changes that will help it survive. Cheers Trachys (talk) 00:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

oh, ok thanks for the heads up. I will be sure to upload the photos.--Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 03:32, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Three images that I have inserted into the article have been removed. Do I keep uploading knowing that they will be censored? BTW, ISM has added more images, please take a look. I want to upload them but I am not sure if we will be able to use them. --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 19:25, 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Notes

The note system you undid here was much more navigable by readers, so I thought it would be an improvement on the star system. I was wondering if you had a reason against using them? Cheers, Ben (talk) 04:18, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

I don't understand how it was less navigable? The note system takes you directly to the fine print just by clicking, as opposed to have to look for it. The symbols I used were arbitrary - you can use asterixes if you want, though I don't like the idea of four in a row, perhaps a, b, c, d, or A, B, C, D, ? Cheers, Ben (talk) 08:06, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
So you're ok with the note system using multiple asterisks? Cheers, Ben (talk) 08:15, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
Well, it should look the same, just people will be able to click them to get to the info instead of having to look for it. I'll put them back in now. Ben (talk) 08:36, 16 January 2009 (UTC)
The * breaks the template, even using the HTML escape char to do so, so it's out. I think having something people can click to see the information is better than insisting on a specific symbol and making them look for the info, so is there any chance of another compromise? Cheers, Ben (talk) 09:03, 16 January 2009 (UTC)

Policemen killed

An official police spokesman said that 231 policemen were killed. Wheater it be officers or just men, police is police. But if you want proof here it is. If we would combine this claim of 231 policemen with 158 militants (claimed by the militants) then we would get 389, which is only one short from 390 combatants killed which is claimed by PCHR. I started to think why 231 was claimed by a spokesman for the Interior Ministry and 168 by PCHR, then I remembered PCHR claimed 168 CIVIL policemen, and that is the number stated in their 390 claim. I came to the conclusion that they probably counted as civil policemen only those that had no militant ties.BobaFett85 (talk) 01:11, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Comparison of wiki farms

User:2005 made a cogent point in that when you set the EL's as refs, you did not include some sort of ref-format explanation in the cite as to just what was being cited, making it a poor cite (no offense).
Setting up a more informative citation helps readers.
Common form (with current date)

{{cite web |url= |title= |accessdate=2025-01-10 |work= |publisher= |date= }}

If it is more obvious what the citation is doing, it may show itself as more useful to the article and be less subject to immediate dismissal. Schmidt, 05:03, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
For references, I have found this incredibly easy tool to use, which is very easy to start to use. It automatically adds references.
To add this tool, simply click "my preferences" >> gadgets >> then click the box for "ref tools" then click okay.
Click the CITE button, then choose journal (or web)
also, I notice you don't have email activated. Ikip (talk) 15:22, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. I just enabled the gadget. I am not sure it will help me though. I can almost do references in my sleep. See Casualties of the Iraq War for example. There are many references there. I added many of them. As for my email I don't make my Misplaced Pages email public. I prefer my privacy, and rarely give out my Misplaced Pages email.
I did make a start on putting the links in the reference column in a more detailed reference format. Feel free to fill out the reference details more. --Timeshifter (talk) 15:34, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

How do you suppose I feel about THIS? Nonetheless, I am doing my best to engage in a civil discussion on those categories, notwithstanding the fact that I am, to be sure, personally invested in them.
