Could it be that ] is identical with multiple hardbanned ]? He frequently deletes contributions by others and aggressively attacks users and even administrators and members of the arbitration committee if their opinions are not in line with his personal view. For instance, he repeatedly, and falsely, claimed that my edits are fabricated, unfounded, or unwarranted and therefore must be removed. On 7 November 2003 ], obviously an Elvis Presley fan like Ted Wilkes, deleted a passage relating to a claim by David Bret that Elvis may have been gay. See . The same user added some denigrating remarks on Bret's book to the related discussion page, which were similar to those later written by Ted Wilkes. See .
In November 2003, NightCrawler was hardbanned. See . But NightCrawler reappeared as ] creating a new, denigrating article on biographer David Bret. See . This biased article was rewritten by me on 4 April 2004. See . In the meantime, JillandJack was hardbanned.
On 20 April 2005, some different comment concerning author David Bret and his book was added. See . This was repeatedly deleted by IP 66.61.69.65. See, for instance, , , . Administrator ] was forced to restore this comment. See . Since May 2005 there was an edit war between Ted Wilkes and me concerning the article on ] and particularly his book, ''Elvis: The Hollywood Years'', presumably because of Bret's claim that Elvis had homosexual leanings - a claim Ted Wilkes didn't like from the beginning. See
On 5 May, Ted Wilkes reinstated, without further commentary, the biased version by JillandJack thereby deleting a link to a positive ''Guardian'' review of a book written by Bret. See . Significantly, Ted Wilkes repeatedly reverted the article to the version he preferred, i.e., exactly the version JillandJack had created, accusing me of distortions, fabrications, being a vandal, etc. See , , , , , , , , , , etc. etc. It should also be noted that Ted Wilkes repeatedly violated the 3RR in the past and was blocked for doing so. Wiki Project name: where to change?
Hi, Angela. At Ka, the project name/namespace is still the default name Misplaced Pages. I would like to change it to the georgian correspondant ვიკიპედია. As I read in m:MediaWiki localisation#Modifying_files, talking about changing the LangXX.php file, they say:
Don't include Wikimedia or Misplaced Pages-isms in the file, this includes: * Not hardcoding "Misplaced Pages" or its local spelling everywhere. These language files are used for every MediaWiki wiki, including all of our projects at Wikimedia and third-party users. Use Meta for the name and either the default 'Project:' or 'Meta' for the link namespace.
What exactly is use Meta for the matter? I searched all the MediaWiki messages but I found none to be the project name. Can you be so kind to tell me where I can change it?
Thanks and regards, Malafaya 09:44, 7 October 2005 (UTC) (talk@ka)
- It means call "namespace 4" meta or project (or a translation of that) instead of calling it "Misplaced Pages". The name should be something that distinguishes the encyclopedia from the community pages. If you just want a namespace changed, it's easier to request that in bugzilla than to create a whole language file. Angela. 17:00, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- Well, to tell you the truth, that bug is in Bugzilla since 2005-05-07 (check bug 2103) and still it's there pending. I thought I could change something in the site myself to be quicker but apparently I cannot. Thanks anyway, ka:User:Malafaya 22:50, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

At PT
Hello Angela, I don't know if here's the right place, but I know that you're the right person: Please remove my sysop status at PT Misplaced Pages. I'll make the request on your PT page also. Thank you very much, Regards. Juntas 01:08, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
- This isn't possible rigt now since steward functions have been disabled. I don"t know when they are going to re-enabled. If you leave a note at meta:requests for permissions, it might get done eventually. Angela (I have no tilde key - it's about October 8th, 10pm)
- Well, thank you anyway. Juntas 01:14, 9 October 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, this has been fixed since I was away, so you can leave a request at meta:requests for permissions if you still want this. Angela. 17:00, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you Angela, it's already done. Juntas 23:18, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

- Er..right. But my message was 2 years ago, before raw signatures were possible. I'm not convinced I'd want to change my nickname to ````. :) Angela. 17:00, 10 October 2005 (UTC)
- Adam is incorrect. The behaviour he describes relies upon exploiting a pug in the software which could lead to all sorts of problems. Mediation Mailing List...
Hello Improv, Angela, and Anthere. I was just wondering... I haven't gotten a digest for about a week. Would it be alright if I were to become an admin on the mailing list, as I haven't see you three around lately :-/ Comments appreciated. Redwolf24 (talk) 23:17, 10 October 2005 (UTC)

You were listed on the Misplaced Pages:Wikipedians/Europe page as living in or being associated with Europe. Wikisearch?
What happened to www.wikisearch.org? I always enjoyed browsing that and seeing if you'd updated. :) --Golbez 14:57, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
- Er... good question. Erik was going to host it, but I guess he never got round to it. The site was a mess anyway and hardly ever updated. If you want to read about wikis, Signpost and Quarto are better places to do that. If you want to read about search, then I tend to update the Google Wiki more than I ever updated that blog. I think Erik still has the files, so it might be rescuable, but he's away at the moment. Angela. 18:07, 11 October 2005 (UTC)

Help
A year ago you helped my wife User:Ockham and I on keeping the Michael E. Berumen article when it came under attack. Now they want to delete it, again. Could you weigh in with your opinion on proposal for deletion? I feel railroaded on the whole thing. icut4u 14:21, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Are you sure that was me? I don't remember anything about that and don't see any posts by me on that article or talk page. Angela. 18:03, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- No, I am not absoultely sure, but I'm pretty sure it was on the help desk page about a year ago. I may be confused. I know Theresa said something, and I seem to recall you did to. Anyway, it's not that important, but I thought you might weigh in since you are so well regarded around here (by me too) and I know you have a more anti-deletionist outlook than some, and rightly so for this kind of venue. Thanks. icut4u
- Ok, I must have forgotten about it. It looks like it's likely to be kept following the AfD anyway. Angela. 01:23, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Wikimedia Foundation's website account
Hi, Angela
I am Rami Tarawneh, a sysop at Arabic wikipedia, I applied for an account at Wikimedia Foundation's website four days ago. I don't know if I should call you or not about this matter.
Anyway, it is only a three hours ride from Bremen to Berlin, so if I don't hear a replay from you soon, I will just come in person. ;-)
You can contact me in my discussion page. --Tarawneh 04:05, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
- This is done now. You should get the password by email. Angela. 01:23, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Your Opinion?
Hello Angela. I am a recent arrival to wikipedia. I am a resident physician in internal medicine in Portland, Oregon. On stumbling upon wikipedia, I was impressed by its potential. I read your words on eventualism. It made me think about the potential of WP as a resource and as a motivator of postive social change. Recently, I have been hanging out in the Articles for Deletion section. The discussion going on at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Chepstow Comprehensive School draws interesting connections with regards to your views on eventualism and WP's potential. I was wondering if you would be willing to offer an opinion. Thanks. Gaff 06:45, 19 October 2005 (UTC)
- I commented on the schools issue at Misplaced Pages:Deletion policy/schools a long time ago. I don't think there's much point rehashing the argument on AfD every day. Angela. 01:23, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Brazil
Hello Angela, since you're among the most respected wikipedians out there, I have a question for you. As of late, the Brazil entry has been going a number of modifications regarding it's poverty section. To summarize, that section provided a very NPOV analyses of the roots of poverty, so after a bit of discussion, we decided it would be best to remove the NPOV analyses, maintaining only the basic facts (which has happened, albeit due to the one sided actions of a user...). We where thinking of creating a new page were we could present different POV's analyses, explicitly stating that they are POV (after all, NPOV in such things is near impossible), so what do you think? Cheers, --Vertigo200 13:26, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry to bother you again, but as I see it, there is a serious problem in this case, because there are some many different POV's, all of which can be dully supported by experts. The problem lies with the fact that practically any area of study of humanities (which, obviously, includes anything from economics, sociology, history...) can legitimately present their own analyses on the question in hand ("Roots and causes of Brazilian / 3rd world poverty"), using their respective lines of thought, and come to completely different conclusions. Worse, within each field, there are innumerous experts (who can be called as such within the definitions presented in the tutorial) who will disagree with each other! In such a multitude of opinions, it would seem impossible to manage to produce something that could be considered NPOV for such a question. If that is the case, then perhaps would it be better to simply not include any such analyses within the article and maintain only the readily agreed facts? In all honesty, if the NPOV is to be maintained, I can’t see any other solution... Thanks for the help.--Vertigo200
- Also, this type of question manages to mix politics and science into one big confusing mess.... so what type of criteria should one use to distinguish were the politics / opinions begin and were the science ends?--Vertigo200 14:36, 21 October 2005 (UTC)

Virtual Tour sister project
I've started a proposal page for a sister project called "Wikitour" that would lend itself directly to Misplaced Pages. Whereas Commons hosts individual images of places that have articles on Misplaced Pages, Wikitour would host "virtual tours" of these places, such as castles, museums, galleries, caverns, mountains, college campuses, typical mosques or churches, archaeological sites, etc.
The basic idea is as follows: a user submits numerous photos of a notable place, which are organized into pages/subpages to create a navigable environment similar to that in Myst, Riven, or graphical adventures; the navigation system would be on Wikitour, while the files themselves would be on Commons, with a link in the respective article on WP; Basically, any topic that has an article on Misplaced Pages has the possibility of its own entry in Wikitour. Users could also submit photos of an object from various sides/angles/distances, rather than a place.
Please leave your impressions/suggestions at Talk:Wikitour. Thanks. — Brian0918 20:13, October 21, 2005 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages:Counter Vandalism Unit
Hi, I know you guys already gave me permission to use the wikimedia and wikipedia logos to be used on the CVU images. Several users appear to have concers if I actualy got the permission or not. It might be best for you to mention that I/We have permission to use the wikipedia/wikimedia logos on wikipedia.
Hope this makes some sense. --Cool Cat 19:26, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- The Board has no policy on this yet, though it is under discussion right now. My latest email on this topic mentioned the logos you'd made (along with many other examples), noting that the CVU logo is now widely in use, with no conclusion from the Board, and that I didn't think it was an issue based on past precedents. No comments were made in response to this to suggest these logos were not ok. I can't give you "Board approval" since the Board has no official logo use policy yet, but I can say no one on the Board has objected to Image:CVU2.PNG. This shouldn't be taken to mean we don't have objections to other modified versions of the logo, especially ones which might suggest an inappropriate relationship with Wikimedia. Angela. 20:09, 22 October 2005 (UTC)
- I would like to raise a big "Umm... that's bad" to this. The images are being used, among other things, for WP:DEFCON, on Template:Supertroll, and on infoboxes like the one found on User:Mr Treason to suggest that there is Foundation support for recommendations of database locks, accusations of sockpuppetry, a sort of Misplaced Pages "terror alert" system, and the gathering of "intel" on users. If the CVU wants to engage in this, I merely think they're silly - but I have some serious problems if the Foundation is engaging in this kind of rhetoric, and branding the CVU images with "Wikimedia Foundation" clearly communicates the message that they are. Snowspinner 02:47, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Ok, whatever comments I'd given before were based on the assumption that these logos were for use on user pages. Obviously the logo should never be used to imply Foundation support for something that we've not expressed support for, nor for implying the Foundation is involved in something it's not, like the blocking of users. The closest thing we have to a draft policy is meta:Logo and trademark policy, but it currently says very little about logos and nothing about modified versions of logos. It would be useful to document the problems arising with these CVU images there so the policy can take this into account. Angela. 05:21, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification - what should be done with the images for now, then? Should they be removed from templates, the WP:DEFCON page, and the like? Snowspinner 05:59, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that would be the best step right now. Angela. 06:17, 23 October 2005 (UTC)
- Done. I also added an explanation of the issue to the page you linked to, and raised an arbcom request, since a local solution as opposed to a Foundation intervention is probably preferable. Snowspinner 06:29, 23 October 2005 (UTC)

Commons Logo
Hi Angela,
I hope you don't mind, but I updated the Commons logo on your user page. The *.png file was deleted today because it was redundant with the *.svg file. -- Psy guy 12:51, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
- Thank you for telling me, but the image was certainly not redundant. The check usage tool shows it was in use in over 1500 pages on three Wikipedias alone. Angela. 14:53, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
About Misplaced Pages logo
Since logos ara subject of these days, I also wanted to ask a question. Tr wikipedia is getting close to 10,000 article. And community wants to put this news into our Main Page. One guy propesed a picture, which is basically picture of "10,000" , but he used wikipedia logo as zeros. I know wikipedia logo is copyrighted but I was wondering if this type of usage in wikimedia sites is allowed or not. If not is there a way to get permission. Or any other suggestion. Thanks in advance --User:Dbl2010 17:03, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm sure that's fine. Many other Wikipedias have done similar things. There's no logo use policy, so I can't give an "official" answer, but for the purpose of highlighting a milestone in this way, precendent would suggest it's not problematic. Angela. 14:25, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
Misplaced Pages Bounty Board
Angela,
I've been thinking for a while about starting a Misplaced Pages:Bounty board, where people put up monetary bounties for articles to become featured, but where the money all goes to the Wikimedia Foundation if the conditions are met. I have a draft at User:Quadell/bounty.
It seems to me that the positives would be that it would encourage donations and encourage the creation of featured articles, and it would fill a gap - that people tend to look for a psychological "reward" when they've worked hard for Misplaced Pages. But my questions are: 1, Do you think there are any legal problems with this? 2, Do you think this goes against the Wiki philosophy? And 3, Do you see any other problems? (I'm asking several long-term and knowlegeable Wikipedian about this.)
Thanks for your input, – Quadell 17:54, 24 October 2005 (UTC)

Lists of slang sexual terms standards
I just closed an AfD as DELETE Misplaced Pages:Articles_for_deletion/Body_parts_slang_2. However, a similar(some of it is redemable as it is common knowledge and the terms are used in numerous maintream books) article Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/List of sexual slang had KEEP. The intro to sexual slang article is better, but the rest drifts off into O.R. just like the "article" that I just deleted.
We really need to get a standard for these, are they OK or not? And how should they be done? WP:NOR and the fact that Misplaced Pages is not a random assortment of info (also policy) present huge problems for such articles. I could say 656 means "sex using X and Y and position Z" and there is nothing to back it up. I just don't think this stuff belongs at Misplaced Pages. If one wants to search for such things, then use Google.
Hopefully, my decision will be a landmark one, so we can get all this O.R. nonsense off Misplaced Pages.
Any thoughs from our lovely Stewardess?(no puns impied)...this is a serious matter though. ] 15:15, 25 October 2005 (UTC)
- Wouldn't adding sources and removing any unsourced terms solve the problem? Angela.
- Yes, in a way, that is why the other article survived, as some of it was citable, although much garbage still exists. The Body Parts Slang article had nothing salvagable. Still, a clear(as much as possible) standard should be established. ] 13:50, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
rIPping vandals (publicly revealing IP address of the most disruptive vandals)
I have posted Misplaced Pages:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#rIPping_.28and_ToSsing.29_vandals, calling on User:David Gerard to publicly reveal the IPs of the vandalbot socks that have been reverting Sealand, which I believe to be in keeping with item 5 of the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy.
More generally, I believe that revealing IP (rIPping) vandals should be an option in the most disruptive cases of sockpuppet vandalism (especially vandalbots) that prevents Misplaced Pages from functioning normally (causing articles to be permanently protected, for instance). This would be an alternative to the earlier proposal to give more users Checkuser privilege, with the advantage that the privacy of ordinary users (and even garden-variety vandals) would be as secure as before.
Publicly revealing the IP would allow the grunt work of liaising with ISP's abuse contact person to be delegated to a "ToS committee" (Terms of Service) of ordinary users (without checkuser privilege), so reporting of terms of service violations to ISPs and followup could be done more systematically and effectively than is the case today. -- Curps 20:50, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
- You don't need to publicly reveal the IP in order to write to the ISP. Why does the IP need to be made public to anyone other than the person reporting it? Angela. 05:40, 29 October 2005 (UTC)
Hi Angela, I have a question

Afar stats
Hi, I've been discussing this with David Cannon who does the stats pages, and he referred me to you!
You see, all the stats and rankings for all wikis are all skewed by the fact that the "numberofarticles" counter for the Afar wikipedia for reasons I can't explain, reads "6", when the actual number of articles there happens to be more like "0"... There have not been any articles whatsoever there for months, not even the vandals' joke articles that were all deleted... What could be causing this? Codex Sinaiticus 00:40, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

Income tax
Could you help me and some other users with the page income tax? For the past few days, an anonymous user has been inserting lunatic fringe tax-protester arguments into the article. Despite repeated requests for him to stop—and attempts by one user to reason with him—he insists on continually disrupting the article. (Many of his edits are simply pasted in (very badly) from tax protester sites (e.g., , taken from Lucas v. Earle)). These edits have completely disrupted income tax and it does not seem possible to reason with him. Can we block this user for vandalism? His edits are technically "content", but are so far off the mainstream they amount to saying "black is white". Thank you. — Mateo SA | talk 01:19, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

Hello, Angela. Since the HTML Tidy extension of MediaWiki was disabled, your signature is not rendering properly. You might want to recheck its HTML. Titoxd 01:34, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

Please be advised that I am filing a complaint against Misplaced Pages:Arbitration Committee member Fred Bauder. The significance of this matter is such that I would ask that you bring it to the attention of the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation Inc. Thank you. - Ted Wilkes 20:01, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
Could it be that User:Ted Wilkes is identical with multiple hardbanned User:DW? He frequently deletes contributions by others and aggressively attacks users and even administrators and members of the arbitration committee if their opinions are not in line with his personal view. For instance, he repeatedly, and falsely, claimed that my edits are fabricated, unfounded, or unwarranted and therefore must be removed. On 7 November 2003 User:NightCrawler, obviously an Elvis Presley fan like Ted Wilkes, deleted a passage relating to a claim by David Bret that Elvis may have been gay. See . The same user added some denigrating remarks on Bret's book to the related discussion page, which were similar to those later written by Ted Wilkes. See . In November 2003, NightCrawler was hardbanned. See . But NightCrawler reappeared as User:JillandJack creating a new, denigrating article on biographer David Bret. Administrator DropDeadGorgias was forced to restore this comment. See . Since May 2005 there was an edit war between Ted Wilkes and me concerning the article on David Bret and particularly his book, Elvis: The Hollywood Years, presumably because of Bret's claim that Elvis had homosexual leanings - a claim Ted Wilkes didn't like from the beginning. See On 5 May, Ted Wilkes reinstated, without further commentary, the biased version by JillandJack thereby deleting a link to a positive Guardian review of a book written by Bret.
