Azerbaijani Special Forces or Tigers (Template:Lang-az) is one the special operations unit of the Azerbaijani Army. The rising influence and importance of Azerbaijan required the army to create a professional special forces this was established with cooperation with Turkish Navy in 2001. The training and organisation structure of the Tigers is similar to Turkish special forces, Su Altı Taarruz who have close training relationships with them. The first Tiger units were in Ganja following a joint training program with Turkey.
Roles and tasks
The Tigers undertake a number of roles, with a degree of interaction and interoperability:
- Counter-terrorism
- Covert Reconnaissance
- Special reconnaissance
- Direct Action
- Close Protection
- Counter Revolutionary Warfare
- Infrastructure disruption
- Capture of subjects of interest
- Human intelligence (HUMINT) collection
- Defence Diplomacy
