1RR I've agreed to only make one revert per article every 24 hours, and admins can block for violations.

I periodically go through and clean out the old comments... This is because they refer to old situations or that the discussions are otherwise no longer current. Those looking for archives are invited to refer to the history.

If you have a demonstrated history of personal harassment on these pages, your posts are not welcome here. If you do post, your comments will be removed without being read. If there's any chance that you might not know that your behavior is considered harassment, I will tell you, and from that point on you will not be allowed to post here. To anyone who doesn't know what I am referring to here, this warning does not apply to you, so by all means leave a message.

Please add new comments to the bottom of the list below (you can use the handy dandy "new section" tab next to "edit this page" at the top of the screen).

1-RR COMPLIANCE TO DO LIST:

  • Grief porn (ongoing WP:OWN violations even after he was warned at WP:WQA)
  • Guide book (coi/linkfarming of a unreliable source)
  • Demonology (same guy edit warring against consensus -- and tossing around false accusations of vandalism to boot)
  • Jack-o'-lantern (someone adding a lot of detail about Cocu, which, while interesting, is largely off topic and not reliably sourced.)

darbie

I included the serial killer website because it has actual phone conversations and interviews with serial killers that no other websites have. i found it a very good site for term papers and the like. i was not spamming, ive used the site for papers and found it to be very helpful. I respect your views on the article, but please give the website a look over and maybe you could edit the article? i would love for this article to stay on wiki though as i feel there are no other serial killer websites with the information that this site has. there is more info on the website on serial killers that can be found on wiki. take for example girls and corpses wiki page, they have 0 references but their page is up. serial killers ink should be listed here. thanks and i hope to talk soon. Thank you for putting up that quote and a link to the Wired article on your user page. It's been a while since I've laughed so much. As they say, it's funny because it's true :) §FreeRangeFrog 21:12, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, once I saw that one I knew I had to include it.DreamGuy (talk) 15:26, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

FYI

I thought you should know that Arcayne's complaining about you in http://en.wikipedia.org/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard

From what I'm seeing here, he didn't bother to inform you.

It's really sad. I'm actually starting to feel sorry for this guy. Doesn't he have anything else in his life? Erikeltic (talk) 17:12, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I have ANI watchlisted, and whenever I see him posting there I check to see if he's complaining about me or not, so I already replied.
He's frankly obsessed with me and constantly seeks out ways to get into conflict with me, but thankfully he usually loses. At this point he's been stumbling so badly and doing the same to so many other people that I suspect he's probably heading for some serious consequences soon. DreamGuy (talk) 17:22, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
God I hope so. It's just unfair that he gets to abuse the system the way that he does. Erikeltic (talk) 18:05, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism to my user page

Hi. I just wanted to stop by and say thanks for reverting the vandalism to my user page. I think that they didn't appreciate my removal of their spam from the Untouchable (Girls Aloud song) page. ~~ 18:16, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Your edit, summ'd "this list is full of content that has very list purpose for being here, if any -- clearing out ones already linked to in article, that aren't ULs or related" -- has needed doing for a loooong time. thanks! DavidOaks (talk) 19:43, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. DreamGuy (talk) 14:17, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Serial deproder

Hi there. I'd just like to add my personal support to your efforts against the disruptive edits by the likes of Varbas. Keep up the good work. Don't let thugs stop you. Duffbeerforme (talk) 19:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Thanks. From the sea of red links showing up on my watchlist currently it looks like a whole lot of articles deprodded by Varbas/User:Azviz for no good reason are finally getting deleted, and I expect more soon. With any luck the sockpuppet investigation will finally get him banned for good... until he pops up using yet another new account again. DreamGuy (talk) 19:57, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
FYI - in case you missed it, Varbas has indeed been blocked as a sockpuppet. -- The Red Pen of Doom 19:38, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Awesome. Thank you for letting me know. Didn't see a notice pop up anywhere. DreamGuy (talk) 19:42, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Prod reinstatement

Thank you for reinstating those prods; I know it was a lot of work that I was not looking forward to doing. Abductive (talk) 20:41, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

You're welcome. Everybody chipped in with this one in various ways... original prods, detecting the socks, writing up the sockpuppet reports, etc. DreamGuy (talk)

Restoring PRODs from sock puppet cleanup

Hello,

If you are going to restore the PRODs removed by the sock puppets (which I don't object to) you should reset them to expire at least 24 hours from the current time. If you only give them a few hours, there is a good chance they won't appear on bot generated list that people such as myself use check whether we want to "save" the article.

I am not saying that any of these are worth saving necessarily, but I would like to at least get a chance to look at them before they are deleted.

Thank you, ThaddeusB (talk) 20:50, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm not sure on every last one of them, but I know that at least the strong majority of the ones I reset the date on still have at least a couple of days left on them. I also know that I was trying to err on the side of caution, as the time of day it was prodded, deprodded and reprodded could make rounding errors. If I run across any that don't have much time left or start restoring more of the invalid prods I'll tack on an extra day just to be safe. DreamGuy (talk) 21:00, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough --ThaddeusB (talk) 21:27, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, exercise some judgment if possible. If think the article doesn't warrant deletion, or if you think a deletion discussion is necessary, then don't restore the prod—just IAR. MuZemike 21:15, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Hey, you seem to be involved in cleaning up after this guy. It seems that he is now using proxies to get around his block as I've just seen several IP addresses remove prods on their first and only edit. See . I'm not involved with this as much as you are so I thought I'd give you a heads up. Is something like that ok to revert on sight, or would AGF say otherwise? ThemFromSpace 02:30, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Quack. Going to SPI, again. MuZemike 02:37, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Well, it is not uncommon for the original creator of the article to remove the tag using his/her IP rather than logging in. (Although, they usually leave no edit summary at all when doing so.) --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:40, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, no. I'm pinging Symonds directly. MuZemike 02:42, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, the bot just archived it. Will hit SPI again instead. MuZemike 02:44, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

It's annoying how easy it is for a blocked editor to game the system in this way. The first one was from an IP geographically located in the same place as the banned user, so I reverted that one. I'll check others. Anything uncertain I'll wait for a ruling from someone in a position to call a WP:DUCK a duck and then revert to the prod later, with timestamp mods again if necessary. I'll assume good faith in general, but an occasional IAR might apply as well. There's a difference between having an open mind and having a banned user demand that he be allowed to pull our brains out just by reaching in and grabbing. DreamGuy (talk) 12:59, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

I'm noting the IP ranges in which he is editing under so we can get some good, narrow rangeblocks. I'll have to organize it a bit better, though. MuZemike 16:55, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. What a pain. Hopefully it'll help some. DreamGuy (talk) 17:05, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm constructing a table for all the IP socks and their ranges. See User:MuZemike/Sandbox3. MuZemike 17:25, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
I never figured out how to determine appropriate ranges, but it looks like you have a solid handle on it. DreamGuy (talk) 19:23, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Undoing an edit by a blocked user does not count as a revert

I'm leaving that in a big heading there just in case an admin not familiar with the above situation comes along who doesn't know that block evasion edits are not valid edits (ask at ANI if you are unsure). I'd hate for User:Azviz to trick someone into making a mistake, since he's been known to file all sorts of bogus complaints. DreamGuy (talk) 13:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Miscommunication

Hi. What you described as "the hope that the editors will just give up and change their minds" is incredibly different from what I'm suggesting. I'd hate to think that you think I'm saying anything that stupid. I'm talking about a strategy that really does work. I'm speaking from experience. You can find out what I'm suggesting, if you like, or you can pretend I'm suggesting something stupid that I never said. It's up to you, but I think you'd do yourself a favor to at least look into another approach long enough to find out what it even is. -GTBacchus 19:16, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

This sounds almost like a MLM pitch or something, but, sure, I'm always open to hearing more. DreamGuy (talk) 19:20, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
The thing is, as soon as you bring in your first new recruit, you're already making one-and-a-half times the base rate, and when they start bringing in recruits, you're getting rewarded not only for your recruit, but for your recruit's recruits! By the time this thing gets to China, the bubble will burst and it'll all come tumbling down, but we'll sell out, 15,000%, right before that. Then, there's this island fortress where we can hole up while the fallout blows over.

Sorry; couldn't resist. I once lost $80 and a week of my life because I thought I might become an Herbalife distributor. I've got a serious reply coming at you tomorrow. Have a great evening. -GTBacchus 03:17, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Jon Courtney refs

Hey, I'm slightly puzzled by your tag on Jon Courtney's page. The article has loads of references, and to my mind they are all reliable but one. (If you have reasons for believing otherwise, do let me know why). I'm not sure if you are aware of the history of this page, but it has been consistently attacked and vandalised by various single-purpose account editors. Due to controversy, a senior admin called Moonriddengirl reworked the page herself in a very thorough manner, leaving it full of great references. The only dodgy ones were the myspace (though this is only being used to establish a minor fact, not a quote or opinion, and Moonriddengirl seemed to think it was justifiable - see the history of the page for her explanation, she cited Misplaced Pages:SELFPUB#Self-published and questionable sources in articles about themselves), and the Drowned in Sound. When I tried to delete the Drowned in Sound quote, a new single-purpose account called Rightphone (who has a very similar style to previous accounts which have attacked the page, and has already vandalised two other Courtney-related pages ) reverted my edit, whereupon I put a query on the "reliable sources" page, which Rightphone unfairly (and biasedly) replied to. If you don't mind, do you think you could have a detailed look at the page, and if you still think it is poorly sourced then explain why and I might be able to find better sources, or if you agree with me that it's just the DiS quote that needs to go, then could you please delete it? Thanks so much for your understanding!Thedarkfourth (talk) 16:58, 26 June 2009 (UTC)

Just looked at the list of source again. MySpace pages, a hypermart.net personal page, a Google image search result (?!?!?). Please read WP:RS for more information on he kinds of references that are considered reliable, encyclopedic sources. DreamGuy (talk) 20:16, 26 June 2009 (UTC)
1, it was an experienced admin, not me, who said that the myspace ref was solid, per Misplaced Pages:SELFPUB#Self-published and questionable sources in articles about themselves, 2, I'm not sure which is the hypermart.net one, I can't see any reference at that address, but if you point it out to me I'll try to find an alternative. 3, I changed the google image for a real reference. What else needs to be done, do you think? Does the DiS reference need to go?Cheers,Thedarkfourth (talk) 16:28, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
Um, hate to be pushy but I'd quite like to make a move on this article so I guess if you don't reply soonish I'll assume you agree with me that the references are sound, the banner can go and Drowned in Sound is not a viable source.Thedarkfourth (talk) 15:56, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
So, when someone explicitly disagrees with you and explains why on the talkpage of the article in question and a personal talk page, if you ask again as if you hadn't read the previous comments and then don't get an immediate response you will choose to believe that the person have for some inexplicable reason changed his mind to agree with you? You're right, that is pushy. DreamGuy (talk) 16:00, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Sorry I was looking here not there.Thedarkfourth (talk) 18:29, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Re:Harry Potter wiki

It does not seem to me to be off-topic to include links to the HPW in those articles. To me, it seems interesting to see how famous people (like Merlin, Morgan le Fay or even Ptolemy) are referenced in some authors' works, and their role in modern literature. I also think it's better to link to the HPW than to include the information in here, because in the wiki, instead of a brief mention like "Merlin was also mentioned in the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling, in a Chocolate Frog Card" (which is about how much you put into an HP historical character's article in here), ALL the information about the individual (inside the books universe, at least) can be included in its own article. Personally, I think it's a better way of conciliating both the real individual's and the HP character's information, resulting in a most interesting (and NOT off-topic, since I did not plan to link, e.g. Misplaced Pages's Winston Churchill article to HPW's Bertie Bott article) read. I can only see good things to gain with the links, but I will, of course, leave to your own judgement to decide what's best. Yours,
--Rick Cooper —Preceding undated comment added 03:07, 29 June 2009 (UTC).

It'd be off topic whether you put the info in the article or linked to a Harry Potter wiki. Use some common sense. These characters and themes appear in literally hundreds of thousands of fiction books: that's not notable, and we sure shouldn't clog up the article with links to websites discussing all of them. If Harry Potter discusses any of these things, put it in a Harry Potter article if you think it's important to readers of Harry Potter, but do not put them anywhere else. DreamGuy (talk) 15:11, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks for the clarification! --Rick Cooper 16:19, 29 June 2009 (UTC).
