Uttaran is daily serial broadcast on the Indian Channel Colors. It replaced Big Boss 2 & went on air on December 1 , 2008 in the 10.00pm slot while Jaane Kya Baat Hui went on air in the 10.30pm slot. Within the first month it has been able to retain a position in Top 20 programmes in India.

Plot
Uttaran talks about the discrimination between the rich and the poor. It revolves around the life of Iccha and her best friend Tapasya.
Iccha is the daughter of Damini, a poor maidservant. Damini takes up a job in the house of a rich Thakur. Iccha befriends the Thakur's beloved only child Tapasya. Tapasya is the one because of whom Iccha can stay there. But the tables turn when Damini helps Tapasya's mother in an accident, despite the fact that it was none other than the Thakur who caused her husband's death. Out of gratefulness, they start spoiling Iccha. As long as Iccha was poor, Tapasya liked her, but now that Iccha is also a normal girl like her irritates her. Iccha tolerates Tapasya's jealousy, but how long will she do it?
