I've thought things through a bit, and I've realized something unfortunate: Misplaced Pages is just plain unpleasant and makes me miserable. The wealth of knowledge in our articles is great, but the drama and ill-will in our community are stifling. The disputes this community deals with have outgrown its ability to deal with them. I think most of us know this now, and I think even the members of ArbCom, who have the responsibility of dealing with our worst disputes, know that they cannot do so (and if they don't, they're dreaming). The next election is coming fairly soon, but that provides no comfort to me, as I'm sure any other ArbCom would have all the same shortcomings as previous ones. What depresses me most is that if I were allowed to reconstitute the committee by fiat, I don't think I could think of fifteen people I would place on it; in fact, I'm not sure I can think of five. Without a system to resolve disputes better than the current one, Misplaced Pages's always going to be a depressing place to be, and my real life is depressing enough as it is. For that reason, I've decided I should do what I can to make a break. I know I'll never be able to do so if I remain able to use my account, so I'm going to have to use wikibreak enforcer to lock my account for the time being. If any of you really do want to contact me, I suggest email. See you later. | |||
