The salute Za dom - spremni! (literally transl. from Croatian: For home - ready!) It dates from the half of the 19th century. It became infamous used during World War II by the Ustaše movement as their equivalent of the Nazi Sieg Heil, though the Ustaše salute also included the phrase "Za koga? Za Poglavnika!" meaning "For whom? For the Poglavnik (Ante Pavelić)".
U boj u boj
U boj, u boj,song composed by Ivan Zajc contained phrase Za dom in lyrics. The opera has been performed even during communist Yugoslavia. Some communists have labeled it as permanent nationalistic incidentin Split theater.
A reasonable translation would be "for our homeland we are ready to fight". The salute has become popular among nationalists in Croatia during the Croatian war of independence Croatian Defence Forces used that salute as an official and they had it on its logo.
Thompson
The Croatian music band Thompson uses this salute at concerts, wearing black, while some of the public wear Ustaše symbols to the concerts. Thompson has even used the slogan in one of his songs Bojna - Čavoglave; some fans respond with the Nazi salute, though their lead singer Marko Perković has denied ever "raising his hand" in the salute himself.
