RationalWiki is a wiki created to analyze and refute unscientific statements as well as "crank ideas," and explore authoritarianism and fundamentalism.

The site contains content that is satirical and critical of Conservapedia, A Storehouse of Knowledge, Conservapedia founder Andrew Schlafly, and the administrators of both sites. It also contains satirical articles on subjects related to Conservative Christian viewpoints such as young earth creationism.

History

RationalWiki was founded in 2007 by former Conservapedia editors.

The LA Times recounts what made one of the early members become a part of the site: Peter Lipson, a doctor of internal medicine had his Conservapedia account blocked as a result of him attempting to include evidence in Conservapedia's breast cancer article against Conservapedia's statement linking abortion as a major cause of the disease (a statement which is based on selective evidence but goes against scientific consensus).
