'''My Chemical Romance''' (commonly abbreviated '''MCR''' or called '''My Chem''' by fans) is a popular ] band. The genre of music the band plays is often misinterpreted and highly debated, vocalist Gerard Way refers to their sound as "violent pop". The band cites their influences from other rock groups like ], ], ], and ], but is most mistakenly categorized into the ] genre. The bands members hail from ] and ], ] (except drummer Bob Bryar, from ]). ] ] coined the band's name from '']'', by ].{{ref|stone}}

The band was formed by frontman ] and ex-drummer ] in ]. MCR released their first full album '']'' in ] on independent label ], which earned them an underground following; the album was produced by Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly.

] saw the release of their second album and major label debut '']'' and their first hit single "]". "Helena" was their second single, and it earned them five ] nominations and two '']'' Awards. (At the MTV ceremony, ] met the band and called their lead singer "Steve" ). Their third (and most recent) single from the album is "The Ghost of You."

In early ], MCR plans on releasing, '']'' which will be a ] giving a behind-the-scenes look at their rise to fame. A third album is also planned to be out in ], but no title and release date has been announced yet.

My Chemical Romance's popularity has spread internationally particularly in ] where they played two shows with ] and ] in ] and ] and a show in ] in ] ].
