Scott Mills (born March 28th 1974 in Southampton) is a British DJ currently on Radio 1. The Scott Mills Show airs Monday-Thursday 4-7pm and Friday 4-5:45pm, although he presents the morning show whenever Chris Moyles is unavailable. He also presents the Top 40 chart show when JK and Joel are having a break. He works with Mark Chapman (aka 'Chappers') who is the sports reader and reads out love stories on the DJ Spoony show on Sunday morning in a segment called Mills & Spoon, a name play on the Mills & Boon series of books and films.
Scott's first ever job was a chimney sweeper in the outer suburbs of Southampton but due to the poor pay he decided to go into radio. Scott's first ever radio job was at Southampton based radio station, Power FM, presenting a 1.00am to 6.00am slot. Aged 16, he was the youngest radio presenter in the UK. He later moved to a "drivetime slot" at the station before moving to GWR FM in Bristol. After two years at GWR FM, Scott moved to Piccadilly Key 103 in Manchester. Initally on the late night slot at Key 103, he later moved to a mid-morning slot. A highlight of his time at Key 103, was an exclusive interview with Robbie Williams following his high profile split from Take That. Scott later joined the team of Heart FM for its launch.
Radio 1 approached Scott in 1998, and initially gave him the Early Breakfast Show which has long been used as a slot to try out new 'daytime' presenters. On his fourth day on the job, the presenter of the flagship Breakfast show, Zoe Ball, phoned in sick and Scott filled in on her behalf. Proving popular with listeners, he later presented other slots, including the Chart Show countdown of the top 40 UK singles, and later with the Scott Mills Show, his current show, which is a drivetime slot between 4.00pm and 7.00pm on week days. This is considered the second most important slot on the radio after the breakfast show. Scott often fills in for Chris Moyles (the current breakfast show presenter) when Chris is away on holiday. Different features are used such as 'Car Park Price Is Right' featuring the voice of Bruce Forsyth where callers have to guess the price of various products and the closest wins the product.
Features of the afternoon show include phone call hoax/wind-up where he speaks to people, nominated by their friends, and uses voice samples from well-known characters from films or TV to provide questions or answers. Also he is infamously known for the Flirt Divert segment, where a unwanted potential partner would leave a message on a fake mobile phone answering machine, which would then be played on the show.
