    Economy of India edits

Hi, The history sections in Economy of India are a summary of Economic history of India. So, I have reverted a para in Economy of India which was also present in the latter. Also, you need to use the preview and edit summaries. --PamriTalk 03:34, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

I see you have added it again. Please see Talk:Economy_of_India#National_Income_estimates and understand that the history section in EoI is a summary and we cannot have all the information on a subject even if it is relevant. Feel free to add any such info to Economic history of India instead. Regards, --PamriTalk 03:36, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

    Economic history of India

Hi, great work on India related articles!! It would be great if you can provide a reference for the following edit of yours - Another estimate of India's pre-colonial economy from an alternative source puts the revenue of Akbar's Mughal empire in 1600 at £17.5 million, in contrast to the entire treasury of Great Britain in 1800, which totalled £16 million. You may also want to look at WP:V. Regards, --Gurubrahma 04:35, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

This statement also included in Economy of India, by Nichalp comes from Bombay Times. I have seen one estimate in Cambridge's Economic history of India series, but it was in florins. I guess the original estimate to have been made by Angus Madison. --PamriTalk 05:42, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

    numbers

could you where you found the information that the Indus Valley people used negative integers? Could you also add a proper citation of the "Shanti mantra" (where I put a provisional "VS 40.x" according to the webpage you linked to) on Yajurveda? thanks, dab () 20:35, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

That was an error on my part. I thought they used negative numbers based on the negative numbers article. It was in fact first used by Brahmagupta in the 7th century but earlier Chinese mathematicians had an idea of negative numbers. The citation for the "Shanti mantra" is already on the web page I linked to. I'm not sure what you mean. (User: Jagged 85, 09/12/2005)

It would be a big help if you could provide references for the dates you give for Indian mathematical texts. Different sources give widely varying dates. Rick Norwood 02:24, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
I've added some references regarding the dates of the Sulba Sutras in the Sulba Sutras page. Check it out for yourself if you wish to confirm the dates I've given. (User: Jagged 85, 09/12/2005)

    "Arabic" numerals

Hi. You might want to contribute to the discussion at Talk:Arabic numerals regarding whether the article should be renamed "Hindu-Arabic numerals". Thanks. deeptrivia (talk) 22:12, 14 December 2005 (UTC)

    Minor edits

Hi, just a little heads up that the minor edit checkbox in the article namespace is only to be used for really trivial changes like formatting and spelling. Thanks. Arvindn 06:24, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

    Great Work!

Great work on Indian mathematics related articles like Kerala School! Keep it up!!! deeptrivia (talk) 15:15, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

    Edit summary

Hi. Just a request. I would like to ask you to use an edit summary when you contribute. That is especially important when you add sensitive information, like history, dates, etc, and as well as for any big edits. I hope you don't mind. :) Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 17:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

    Request for edit summary

When editing an article on Misplaced Pages there is a small field labelled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

    Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

When you leave the edit summary blank, some of your edits could be mistaken for vandalism and may be reverted, so please always briefly summarize your edits, especially when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you.

    Hangul

Hi. I see you've updated the Brahmic family page to include Hangul. I was under the impression that although Hangul is a phonemic, it's not a Brahmi descendent. It would be good if you could clarify this. Thanks. Sukh | ਸੁਖ | Talk 01:34, 21 January 2006 (UTC)

    Excellent work!

Thank you for filling up the List of largest empires! You did a great job! Just what I thought I'll manage when I created that page, but I miserably failed in finding any sources. :-( Tell me, you used only http://www.hostkingdom.net/earthrul.html, or any other source? --Dijxtra 10:21, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

    FAC

Hi Jagged85, I wanted to let you know that an article I've worked a lot on recently, the Political integration of India is now FAC. I hope you will have some time to consider the work and give it an up or down vote. Please don't consider this soliciting - I'm requesting your participation. Thanks! History of Mathematics

"The earliest known re-development of writing in India has recently been carbon-dated between 800 BC and 600 BC"

Can you provide a reference for this?

Also, there seem to have been two separate periods of mathematical discovery in India. I wonder if the later period should be moved, to preserve the rough chronological order of the article. Rick Norwood 14:25, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate the changes you've made in the article. On the other hand, keep in mind that this is a summary of the history of mathematics, and that most info on the history of mathematics belongs in the various specialized articles referenced here. Use your judgment in deciding what to put in and what to leave out. Rick Norwood 22:12, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

    Style tips

Hi Jagged 85. I have some small tips for you.

One is to use an edit summary. I told you twice before, I guess you better learn to follow that important guideline, there are good reasons for that. Please remember, you are not the only one on Misplaced Pages, and others have the right to know why you changed something, and that's what an edit summary is for.

Second, if you look at this diff you will see that it is important to remove underscores from links, they make it easier to see the diff. Thanks! Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 04:54, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Also, to the right of the "Save page" button, there is another one, called "Show preview". That is very helpful when you make changes to articles.
