The headquarters of this district is in Barasat.

History

Geography

Thw district lies within the Ganges-Brahmaputra delta.The river Ganges flows along the entire west border of the district.

Latitude: 23°15'East - 22°11' East Longitude: 89°5'North - 88°20' North

The climate is tropical- like the rest of the Gangetic West Bengal.The hallmark is the Monsoon- from earlu June to mid September.The weather remains dry during the winter(mid November to mid Febrary) and humid during summer.
