I have noticed this page has been vandalized and I have removed the sentence "Cowardly captain James Mayne fled, leaving women, children, and his own pet rats for dead." from the opening paragraph of this article.Tundrawinds 16:47, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- According to Time, he left his pet dog and canary aboard to be rescued by one of the entertainers who was left to command the rescue effort. That article, however, states that our illustrious Capt. Avranas departed by helicopter whereas all other sources mention he left by lifeboat (one source even mentions that the Avranas & Crew wasted a second lifeboat to haul luggage).
