nProtect GameGuard (sometimes called GG) is an anti-cheating software developed by INCA Internet. It is installed alongside many Asian massively multiplayer online roleplaying games (MMORPGs) such as Lineage II, 9Dragons, Cabal Online, Phantasy Star Universe, GunZ: The Duel, Flyff, PangYa and Ragnarok Online to block malicious applications and common methods of cheating. nProtect GameGuard provides B2B2C (Business to Business to Consumer) security services for online game companies and portal sites.
GameGuard hides the game application process, monitors the entire memory range, terminates applications defined by the game vendor and INCA Internet to be cheats (QIP for example), blocks certain calls to DirectX functions and Windows APIs, and auto-updates itself to change as new threats surface.
GameGuard possesses a database on game hacks based on security references from more than 260 game clients. Some editions of GameGuard are now bundled with INCA Internet's Tachyon anti-virus/anti-spyware library, and others with nProtect KeyCrypt, an anti-keylogger software that protects the keyboard input information.

Windows 7
GameGuard was not compatible with Windows 7 RTM (Build 7600) - it ends up in "Error Initializing (0)", so games using GameGuard also didn't work with Windows 7. Most games have updated their GameGuard to be Windows 7 compatible.

Criticisms
GameGuard is bundled along with commercial games. Users are not informed ahead of time nor given the choice during game installation to accept or decline the installation of GameGuard onto their computers. This practice is similar to Sony placing a rootkit onto their music CDs without user permission.
GameGuard is noted to be in conflict with other programs and softwares. Several GameGuard vulnerabilities could be exploited by malicious codes. It was reported to function very similar to rootkits and still leaves hidden files behind when the commercial software it was bundled with was uninstalled. Furthermore, GameGuard itself does not come with an uninstall program. GameGuard was reported to prevent users from running Google Chrome when the game is active (because Google Chrome creates new process for every new tab). Even with games that GameGuard is supposed to protect, at times it prevented the game from launching and users must manually fix the error on their own computers. Other games that experienced conflict with GameGuard in the past includes Mabinogi, Monster Hunter Frontier, Phantasy Star Universe, Aion: The Tower of Eternity, Talesrunner, Crazy Arcade, Counter-Strike Online, and Crazyracing Kartrider. Some of these games replaced GameGuard with HackShield. Crazy Arcade substituted GameGuard with HackShield on April 8, 2009. Crazyracing Kartrider replaced GameGuard on April 17, 2009. Counter-Strike Online made the switch on April 22, 2009. Taiwan version of Maple Story changed to HackShield on April 28, 2009. Talesrunner switched over to HackShield on October 14, 2009.
