Susan Lindauer (born 1962?), of Takoma Park, Maryland, is an American journalist accused of spying for Iraq.
She was accused of conspiring to act as a spy for the Iraqi Intelligence Service and engaging in prohibited financial transactions involving the government of Iraq under Saddam Hussein. The prosecution claims that she accepted $10,000 for the work.
Employment
Lindauer worked at Fortune, Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and U.S. News & World Report before beginning a career as a political publicist. She then worked for Representative Peter DeFazio, D-Oregon (1993) and then Representative Ron Wyden, D-Oregon (1994) before joining the office of Senator Carol Moseley Braun, D-Illinois, where she worked as a press secretary for 9 months. From March to May 2002, she worked for Representative Zoe Lofgren, D-California.
Quote
"I'm an anti-war activist and I'm innocent...I did more to stop terrorism in this country than anybody else. I have done good things for this country. I worked to get weapons inspectors back to Iraq when everyone else said it was impossible. I'm very proud and I'll stand by my achievements."
Lindauer faces up to 10 years in prison on the most serious charge and five years on the lesser charge if convicted.

On August 5, 1996 hundreds, perhaps even thousands of messages of
this type were posted to the USENET. Most were posted or re-posted
to news.admin.net-abuse.misc, and most of them consist of 1000's
of ostensiby random words. While it cannot be determined directly
whether this particular message is in fact from the same Susan Lindauer
who was arrested on charges of spying for Iraq on March 11th, 2004,
it might be of interest to fans of cryptanalysis or puzzles in
general to try to duduce - in the event this message is in fact not
a random instance, just what the correct decoding is. Perhaps the real
SYMBOL Sue will care to comment?
One obvious clue might be the occurance of the name Hertzog who
might actually be Werner Herzog, an internationally aclaimed
film-maker who once made a documentary motion-picture about the so
called shock jock of televangelism, also known as the illustrious
Dr. Eugene Scott. If Hertzog refers to the film maker Herzog,
who made the film "God's Angry Man", then the "ditty craggy flogging
variac brotherhood" might refer to Dr. Gene Scott's employees.
Alternately, it is known that Dr. Gene Scott's corporate counsel
is none other than the famous Ed Masry as seen in the movie Erin Brockovich. If this is the case, then "ditty craggy flogging variac brotherhood" could refer instead to a group of persons who worked at
PGE.
If this decoding is correct - then ITT most chairperson
substitutes similarly for an un-named Pacific Gas and Electric
executive or informant employee, who Linduaer may have subsequently
sold information about to operatives of the Iraqi government,
in addition to the information about Iraqi ex-patriots and diplomats
that she is alleged to have provided to the IIS in the events
described in the indictment. It should be noted that it is in
fact quite possible that every word of the potential communique
was intended to connote multiple meanings, and this should not be
surprizing - considering the original USENET post appears to be
from a woman who uses the alias SYMBOL!
Even more diabolical is the occurance of the phrase
"pinpoint dunk McKinley pendant firelight" in the message, since
pinpoint and dunk may be words that refer to the carrying out of some
kind of act of locating and carrying out a hostile action agaist
a president or other political figure, referred to as McKinley
or Abe, for the purpose of dunking the candidate, or elected
official. Now as for the identity of the official to be "dunked"
by the people that Lindauer was doing business with - there are
numerous possibilies, the most egregous and shocking of which would
be the posibility of "dunking" the "firelight" which in a religous
conext would have to include the possibility of "dunking" the
burning Bush!
Regardless of who the original author was of this particular bit of
Internet mischief, it appears indeed that the woman that calls
herself SYMBOL Sue may indeed have some very interesting stories
to tell, if she chooses to tell the truth, and the whole truth about
how much information she actually had access too, and to whom she
provided information about, and to whom, and for how much. I am sure
that somewhere there just might some real people named Debbie, Stirling,
perhaps someone named Cohen, who are named directly, as well as
other persons who are alluded to in what just might be a list of
informants, witnesses, or even people who have given sealed testimony
to a grand jury - and where Symbol Sue has simply taken it upon
herself to indicate to persons in foreign governments, that she had
very valuable secrets for sale.
Perhaps someone should ask the family of the recently deceased Nick Berg just how they might feel if indeed the another possible allegation
is true that Susan Lindauer, while ostensibly acting on the authority of and
while conducting a "congressional investigation" and while in the very
brief employment of Zoe Lofgren, obtained information
from one or more major Internet Service providers, such as the screen
names of e-mail accounts used by the September 11th hijackers, names of
identity theft victims, caller ID - and therewith sold these and
other state secrets to the highest bidder.
