The Roots Club is a new, upscale restaurant and catering hall in Gaza. Restaurant reviewers expect the restaurant to bring "a new era of hospitality and dining experience" to Gazans.
The "high end" Club is located in "the posh Gaza district" of Rimal. The Club features three different dining venues, the informal, outdoor Green Terrace Café, the Ambassador catering hall, and the elegant, air conditioned Roots Restaurant. One restaurant reviewer described the atmosphere as "vaguely reminiscent of the Anglo-Indian country-clubs of the colonial era."
The restaurant offers an elegant 16 page menu with such upscale dishes as Sole meunière, Baked sea bass with garlic sauce, Deep fried calamari, Veal Scaloppine, Steak au poivre, Chateaubriand steak with Béarnaise sauce, and Fettuccine alfredo. A reviewer called the menu, which features 12 different meat dishes, chicken prepared 13 different ways, and 8 pasta preparations in addition to an array of salads, appetizers, desserts, and 9 kinds of soup served "only in winter," truly staggering.
The restaurant was brought to world attention by British journalist Tom Gross and by the Israeli Government Press Office.
