NeXT's Mail.app was the email client for the NeXTSTEP operating system. It was one of the first e-mail systems to support universally visible, clickable embedded graphics and audio within e-mail. NeXTMail evolved into Mac OS X's Mail.app, the bundled e-mail application in Mac OS X, which was based on Nextstep, the operating system that ran NeXTMail.
