This redirect is about how the Persian language is written using the Latin alphabet. For Finnish mixed with English, see Finglish.

Introduction

Penglish, Pinglish or Fingilish or fargelisi (a portmanteau word formed from Persian + English, or Farsi + English) is a term used to describe the way Persian words are written using the Latin alphabet (as opposed to the Persian alphabet), or generally the casual romanization of Persian words popularized after computers, emailing and online chat became ubiquitous. This type of writing is commonly used in online chat, emails and SMS. It developed and spread due to a lack of software supporting Persian in the past, and due to a lack of knowledge about the software that was available. Although Parsi/Farsi/Persian is supported in recent Microsoft Windows OS, there are still many cases where Perso-Arabic can not be used and there is a need for an alternative way to write persian.( i.e. Persian with English alphabet).Fingilish, if standardized, can be used in such cases more efficiently.

Initially there were no strict rules for conversion into Pingilish or how words were Romanized, and the way of writing Pingilish varied greatly by accent. More recently a standard called Desphilic script has been introduced. Desphilic script can be used to officially transliterate from all Persian language and related dialects into character-set of ordinary English keyboard and also accepts Uni-Pers characters (Ä,Š,Ž,Ü). Unipers is a standard, defining an extended roman alphabet for Persian language.

For example, the Persian word درود ("hello") is written "Dorood". (Desphilic: DorOd)

there are some software to help transliterate from Penglish to Perso-Arabic and vice versa. For example Google has added a page to its Google Transliteration set which can be used to transliterate from penglish into Perso-Arabic script. There are also communities and message groups for fingilish in some famous websites like Facebook.
