CPV (Common Procurement Vocabulary) codes have been developed by the European Union specifically for public procurement. Their main purpose is to help procurement personnel to classify their contract notices consistently and correctly and to help suppliers find the notices which are of interest to them by using a standardised vocabulary. CPV is an acronym and stands for Common Procurement Vocabulary. CPV codes denote a standardised vocabulary to describe procurement notices and have been developed by the European Union for public procurement. Their primary purpose is to help procurement-responsibles to classify procurements consistently, and to help service and product suppliers find procurements of interest.
The Publications Office of the European Union has implemented a modified version of the CPV codes (CPV Code Version 2007) to replace Version 2003. The CPV code search facility in all BiP Solutions services has been upgraded accordingly to reflect these changes. CPV codes have the form "Number Description", where Number consists of 8 digits. The textual description depends on the language used, but the number is identical for all languages.
