CPV is an acronym and stands for Common Procurement Vocabulary. This vocabulary has been developed by the European Union for public procurement. CPV codes are a standardised vocabulary to describe procurement notices to help procurement-responsibles to classify procurements consistently, and to help service and product suppliers find procurements of interest.
The European Union's Publications Office has implemented a modified version of CPV codes of 2007, which is to replace the previous version of 2003.

CPV codes have the form "Number Description", where Number consists of 8 digits. The textual description depends on the language used, but the number is identical for all languages.
