Template:Infobox Aust school Weeden Heights Primary School is a government primary school located in Vermont South, Victoria, Australia which opened in 1980. The school is known for its fantastic education and transition program.

The current principal of Weeden Heights Primary School is Mrs Susan Campbell who has taken a different approach to the school and has made some excellent changes which has helped the school move forward after its many changes of principals.

The current vice principal is Mrs Vicki Martin.

In 2010 Weeden Heights celebrated it's 30th Anniversary.

Leadership

Leadership is very important at Weeden Heights Primary School these are the roles offered to students:

  • School Captains (Grade 6 boy and girl)
  • Vice-School Captains (Grade 6 boy and girl)
  • Arts Captain (Grade 6 boy and girl)
  • Environment (Grade 6 group of boys and girls)
  • Bell Monitors
  • Sport Captains
  • Choir Captains
  • SRC (Grade 3-6)
  • Buddy Monitor (Grade 5)

Fete

Weeden Heights Primary School generally has a fete every second year. Apart from the exemption in 2008 where a Twilight Bazaar Took Place.

Every fete up until 2008 was held during the day.

From 2008 every Weeden Heights fete has been held at night.

The fete's are usually run by a Parents and Community (P&C)team member.

The fete's consist of stalls from each class, rides and sometimes even a fireworks display.

In 2010 for the schools 30th Anniversary a Twilight Fete was held.

The Bright Beginnings Program

The Bright Beginnings program which launched at the school in late-2007 helps the students prepare for the new school year, students get together with there new teacher at the end of the school year and discuses what are the personal goals that need to be achieved. Then in the new year the first two weeks of school focus on getting to know each students one on one and the class teachers making sure each student is settled ready for a year of hard work.

Prep Transition

At Weeden Heights Primary School the Prep transition is designed to help the new students of the school to get ready for what is going to occur in the new year, there are many Prep Days where students are offered to a range of activities that they will be involved in when they start primary school. The prep teachers also work hard to prepare for the program, the Prep teachers also visit each child's home to make sure they are happy at school.

The students are also offered Grade 5 buddies.

Before/After School Care

Weeden Heights Primary School also offers a Before and After School care, whilst there students are given many activities and after/before school treats, they are also offered to do there homework whilst there, with dedicated leaders to make it all fun and enjoyable for the children.

Canteen

The Canteen at Weeden Heights Primary School includes a range of food. In the early days of the Canteen it was open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, which allowed students to go there recess and lunch times to purchase a range of things.

The canteen was put on hold in 2008, to rethink about students welfare and health the canteen was then re-opened in 2009 only this time is open on Fridays with more of a healthy choice of food.

L.O.T.E

Weeden Heights Primary Schools LOTE (Languages Other Than English Program) offers two languages in Semester 1 (Terms 1 and 2) students are offered Indonesian and in Semester 2 (Terms 3 and 4) students are offered French. The reason why Weeden Heights offers two languages is to open up new opportunitys for when the students leave the school to go off to secondary school.

Performing arts

The Performing Arts Program was originally launched by Leigh Grummishch in 1998, Leigh was a fantastic Performing Arts teacher who hired a group called RockED to design and produce the shows for the school. Leigh was the teacher of the program until 2007.

In 2008, Lisa Peirce was hired to be the new Performing Arts teacher at Weeden Heights Primary School, she took on a new approach to the program, and produced her own version of the production 'A Kids Summernight Dream' which was a massive success with the public. The production was held at the Forest Hill Secondary School Performing Arts Centre.

In 2009 Lisa Peirce staged her own version of the play 'Aladdin Jr' which also was a massive success in the public. Lisa also went to the challenge of making the whole school involved in the play. This production was held at the Bessen Centre

In 2010 Lisa Peirce left Weeden Heights and was replaced by Tanya Starkey.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program

In 2007 the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program was established at Weeden Heights, the program offers students a class to cook a range of food and to prepare them for skills later in life, and the gardening program offers students a chance to garden and prepare them for life skills as well. A chicken pen is also at the school where students are to look after the chickens.
