Homocaust is a term used to describe specific targeting and widespread murders of homosexuals akin to the Holocaust targeting Jews. It may be used to describe the situation in the past, or modern day events.

Usage

Nazi Germany

During the Nazi period up to 100,000 gay men & women were persecuted & imprisoned for their sexuality under Paragraph 175 of the German Penal code. About 15,000 were sent to concentration camps where, forced to wear the 'pink triangle', as many as 60% lost their lives.

Modern Day

Homocausto or "Homocaust" is a term used in Brazil to describe the high rate of murders of homosexuals in Brazil. From 1980 to 2009, some 3,196 homicides were recorded targeting homosexuals. in Brazil. Another 250 homicides were recorded in 2010. According to Mott, an anthropologist who tracks this data,

"Most crimes against LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) is due to "cultural homophobia": - Thanks to the machismo and the reprimand that many men have against gays and transvestites, they kill imbued with the ideology that gay men are cowards, they have money, the neighbors will not mind, and the judges will punish with mildness."
