The 2015 Copa America will be the 44th edition of Copa América, a football competition organized by South America’s football ruling body CONMEBOL, to be held in Brazil.

Host country

According to the new host rotation policy the 2015 was supposed to be hosted in Brazil. However, due to the organization of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics in that country, Brazil thought about reconsidering this decision.

CONMEBOL’s president Nicolas Leoz had suggested the tournament to be organized in Mexico (despite this country not being a member of CONMEBOL) . Nevertheless, Brazil and Chile discussed the idea of swapping the realization of the 2015 and 2019 championships .

However, Bolivia’s president Evo Morales has contradicted this arrangement by announcing that his country will stage the 2015 Copa America .

In the end, it was decided, as CBF confirmed in February 2011, the 2015 Copa América to be hold in Brazil.

Possible expansion

There have been proposals to host in this edition a unified CONCACAF - CONMEBOL tournament under the name "Copa Americas", which will have the participation of 10 national teams from CONMEBOL and 6 from CONCACAF.
