The Great American Wiknic is a planned Wiki-Picnic to be held in cities across the United States on the same day (likely Saturday June 25) in Summer 2011.
It is modeled on the Misplaced Pages 10 celebrations, and on the past awesomeness of Wiknics in New York City.
The advantages of the Wikinic model:
- easy to organize, even for old Wikipedians
- welcoming to everyone, even for new Wikipedians and Wikipedian-wannabes
- it's "the picnic anyone can edit"
- also, it's fun!
In short, the Wiknic can be a great easy-in to real life Misplaced Pages culture, and lead to greater wiki-community and outreach in your corner of the country!
Date
Planned to fall around Midsummer, the date of Saturday June 25 / Sunday June 26 raindate is the weekend before the Fourth of July long weekend.
