Things go awry and the two have to work together to escape Niflhel, the Norse Hell. In the course of their travels they thread their way through a carpet of live poisonous snakes, challenge Nidhogg, the world serpent, to a Game of Questions, and cross rivers of caustic venom. Other characters include Modgud, the giant Vafthruthnir, and Garmr.
