Researcher danah boyd (she styles it lowercase) is a researcher in social software and widely-read blogger and commentator on virtual worlds.
Raised in Pennsylvania, boyd studied computer science at Brown University where she worked with Andy van Dam. She then pursued her Masters Degree in sociable media with Judith Donath at the MIT Media Lab. She is currently a Ph.D. student with Peter Lyman in the UC Berkeley School of Information (formerly SIMS) at the University of California, Berkeley. She has conducted research on social networking technologies such as Friendster and blogging. Previously at Google, she currently works at Yahoo! Research Berkeley.
Boyd resides in San Francisco, California. She is known for her signature fuzzy hats with ears.
