The Saidu Teaching Hospital, in Swat, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan consists of two wings 1.5 km (0.93 mi) apart from each other, having 500 beds and a further extension of 500 bedded indoor facilities in progress.
There are separate operating theatres, X-Ray department, clinical laboratories, wards, etc. in each wing. There are 22 sanctioned posts of specialists. The catchment area is the whole of Malakand Division and some parts of Kohistan District. It is the fifth largest hospital in the province.
The Saidu group of teaching hospitals is situated near the River Swat and Saidu Sharif airport. This hospital was established in 1927, consisting of an OPD, and one medical officer in charge, Dispensary, Dressing room and two small wards for male and female patients built about a central wing.
History
Another hospital with the name of Saidu hospital was founded in 1954 in the capital of the state, Saidu Sharif, mainly for female patients and called Zanana hospital. A 15 bedded children's hospital was established in the already existing Red Crescent building adjacent to the Saidu hospital in 1958. In 1969 the state merged with Pakistan. In 1971 all the three hospitals i.e Saidu, Central, children wards were added to Saidu group of teaching hospital, Swat having 500 beds. In 1974 a 60 bedded Eye, ENT and children's wards were added to Saidu group of hospital Swat.
In 1981 a house job doctor hostel was added to this hospital for 30 doctors. In 1987 15 bedded casualty was added to Saidu group of hospitals Swat. In 1988 12 bedded ICU and Nurses hostel was added to this hospital. From 1993 to 1997 100 bed ward comprising, orthopaedic, gynae psychiatric and children completed and commissioned. In September 2000 it was declared as Saidu group of teaching hospitals, for the students of Saidu medical college Swat by the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa health department Peshawar, Pakistan.
