DOOM 3 is a first person shooter computer game being developed by id Software and will be published by Activision. Set in 2145 in a Union Aerospace Corporation (UAC) research center on Mars, it is a complete retelling of the original DOOM, with a completely new graphics and game engine. DOOM 3 is currently available for pre-ordering.
The new engine features of DOOM 3, such as unified dynamic lighting and shadow-casting, normal mapping of textures, realistic handling of object physics and Dolby Digital sound, aim to provide the most realistic gaming experience yet.
In June 2004, several websites reported the release date to be August 3, 2004. This has not been confirmed directly by id Software, who have so far offered no point in time more specific than "when it's done".
