Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (NIT Surat) is one of the 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) established in India in the June 1961. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a noted freedom-fighter and India's first Home Minister.
This institute was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology. It was earlier called Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology (SVRCET). This institute offers seven undergraduate courses of Bachelor of Technology in various disciplines like Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Electronics, Chemical, Computers and Production. It also offers postgraduate courses in Enviornmental engineering, Structural engineering, Water-resources engineering, Turbomachines, Mechanical, Electronics and Chemical Engineering. Some candidates are also pursuing PhDs.
