Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (NIT Surat) is one of the 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) established in India in June 1961. It is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a noted freedom-fighter and India's first Home Minister. This institute was upgraded to a National Institute of Technology as per the National Institutes of Technology Act.
The college has a campus of over 100 hectares of land on the Surat-Dumas Highway. It was earlier called Sardar Vallabhbhai Regional College of Engineering and Technology (SVRCET).
