Sponge is a grunge rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band was founded in 1991 and signed to Sony Records in 1993 for their first album Rotting Piñata, which was released in 1994.

Notable singles by the band include "Plowed", "Molly (Sixteen Candles)", "Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)", and "Have You Seen Mary".
