- Pliny the Younger becomes urban quaestor until 90.
- Domitian was defeated in a campaign north of the Danube fighting against Decebalus, Marcomanni and Quadi tribes.
- Domitian suppresses a revolt in Germania Superior led by Antonius Saturninus. After the revolt, Domitian decided to keep legions permanently quartered in separate camps, thus the Romans lost the military mobility and flexibility envisaged by Augustus.
