Citation
What are the rules surrounding citing information that is not available to everyone unless they register. I'll explain seeing that sounds confusing. Forum Research makes you register for free to see polling results, can the information still be cited? Newfoundlander&Labradorian (talk) 17:58, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
- All good if the forum is a good one - however most forums are not good sources see WP:USERGENERATED - Anyone can create a website or pay to have a book published, then claim to be an expert in a certain field. For that reason self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable.
- As for accessibility of references see see WP:SOURCEACCESS - "Verifiability in this context means that other people should be able to check that material in a Misplaced Pages article has been published by a reliable source. The principle of verifiability implies nothing about ease of access to sources: some online sources may require payment, while some print sources may be available only in university libraries. WikiProject Resource Exchange may be able to assist in obtaining source material."
- For more on identifying reliable sources - See WP:USERGENERATED WP:SELFSOURCE and WP:SCHOLARSHIP Moxy (talk) 13:52, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, as well the information is not from a forum it's just the name of the company.
- WOW i bet they regret that name choice. 20:05, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Hiya Moxy, ltns :), Oh and Ottawa article
Well I've been away from frantically writing about Ottawa and have shifted my work to work (ha-ha), with the occasional edit to some programming language article that's so outrageously wrong I can't resist. So, whatever happened to our efforts to re-submit the Ottawa article as um, something other than a um, broken 'good' article? I'm in the talk page
I'm completely against the whoever person who decided to change the pic, I may have to report this page to other wiki moderators as bias racism. There is absolutely no reason to replace the old picture with an guy who not only does the guy have penis problem + but the 2 persons are extremely anorexic aswell and lack any body mass. Adding to the fact someone is partially racially motivated to promote exaggerated stereotypes of Asian men (Of all pictures someones decides use this one). The older picture shows 2 people with moderate figures, and like I said before, the picture hass been used for long time and is good representation of average human figure. Please do not remove it.

- Racists I dont see that at all but ok. Best to talk then edit war - no need to be banned over an image that I believe you are interpreting wrong.Moxy (talk) 21:20, 13 March 2012 (UTC) My thoughs exactly, but than why did you report me to the administrators? it's only fair I do the same for you. I have nothing against you, but I clearly see bias racism. You may wan to go take a look at the Misplaced Pages:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Moxy. Like I said before I have nothing against you but insist on using the image even though most people obviously don't want to. WarriorsPride6565 (talk (talk • contribs) 5:13, 12 march (UTC)

Latin music task force templates
Hello Moxy! It's been a while since we last talked. I'm having problems at the Latin music task force where I cannot get the music-importance parameter to work, getting the JL-bot to recognized featured and good content, and article alert bot to work. Sorry if it seems overwhelming, but I've been working with putting the task force together. Erick (talk) 05:33, 14 March 2012 (UTC)

Rideau Canal
Hello Moxy - this is in reference to the changes you made to the Rideau Canal page, removing several References while leaving two that are exactly the same type (so I'm puzzled). Rideau Waterway and Our Canal which you've left on the page are both commercial books (only a preview on Google Books - to read the full contents of those book you have to buy them). "A History of the Rideau Lockstations" and others that I added are also "commercial" but the link is to Friends of the Rideau, a non-profit registered charity. So, I'm not sure what you don't like. If it's the commercial aspect of the books then Rideau Waterway and Our Canal should be removed. If it's the link to Friends of the Rideau then I suppose it can be removed. As far as I could tell in the Misplaced Pages guidelines the posting of those books comply (they are direct non-fiction reference books for the topic on the page).
Watinf (talk) 17:22, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
- We should not be linking to commercial sellers especially multiple times to the same place from the same author over and over- Only a preview or full versions should be linked - not a link to buy a book were there is no real content to read - Pls see WP:LINKSPAM, WP:ELNO and WP:BOOKLINKS. All that seem and read I guess we could metion the books with no links to buy them..Moxy (talk) 20:10, 14 March 2012 (UTC)
Canadian comics
Hi, thanks for the kind words about Canadian comics. You suggested bringing it in for a Peer Review. It actually was up for PR recently, and was tidied up based on the input provided, although it seems that the PR process is swamped these days, so few participated (and it doesn't appear that anyone looked at it very closely). I'd love to get more feedback, though, if there are any other routes. CüRlyTüRkeyContribs 04:20, 16 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello! I am Lord Roem, the mediator for a mediation cabal case you are involved in. Please take the time to post an opening statement per the guidelines listed on the talk page here. Confused
Hi Moxy. I admit I'm very confused about our current debate. You apparently reverted my deployment of the sidebar I created on the grounds of it including redlinks. You cited WP:REDNOT as a supporting policy. I demonstrated that REDNOT does not apply, even showing that REDNOT explicity excludes series navigation boxes from its scope. You responded by repeating your previous argument that redlinks should be avoided unless they are likely to be developed into articles, to which I cited REDDEAL as support that the red links I'd created clearly satisfy this criterion too. Nonetheless, as you seemed not to understand how easy it is to fix the "problem" and as you seemed so keen to get rid of the red links regardless, I created redirects (among other methods) in order to turn the red links in to blue links. But now it seems you're not satisfied with that either. Or are you? You stated here that you like the category linking, but then went on to say it is not recommended. And that's despite the relevant guideline clearly stating there isn't a consensus either way (except for main to WP-space redirects).
It seems that, in your point of view, I am creating work for others due to some sort of slackness on my part. However, let me assure you this was never my intention. In deploying these sidebars, I was trying to give others the opportunity to expand them how they chose. In simple terms, I'm donating these sidebars to the community for them to expand upon as they see fit. I was trying to give other users the freedom to make those decissions.
As fellow Wikipedians, I respect your right to revert my deployment of the sidebar I created. However, throughout this discussion, I've only tried to reach out to you and find common ground. However, all I'm getting in return is disregard for what policies such as REDNOT actually say, ignorance (albeit temporary) of deletion criteria, reference to a non-existent redirect "recommendation" and, (and this is highly questionable) an admittance that you'll even go so far as to change the guidelines suit your cause.
From where I stand, I'm extremely confused. As I don't tire of telling you, I want for us to work together on this but I can't do that if you don't give me a clear statement of exactly what you want from me. I want to work with you. Please help me on this. ClaretAsh 13:15, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- I do think all was done in good faith - I just think you took on a task you were unprepared for ... so point by point...
- our policy is that Navigation templates located in the top-right corner of articles (sometimes called a "sidebar" or "part of a series" template) should be treated with special attention, because they are so prominently displayed to readers "Navigation templates provide navigation between existing articles and avoid redirects" - Your making a template that ends-up dominated by "non-existing articles"
- REDDEAL and REDNOT = It is find to make some red links - but you realy think it is helping us or our readers to have hundreds if not thousands of red links all over? Are you going to make all theses articles or find the real name of theses articles and redirect them? "Series navigation" are for a real "Series" of articles like this one- not ones that may be subjectively related.
- you like the category linking! = I did but did not realizes you did so by making the articles and then just redirecting them to cats. We dont do this its why they have different name spaces so our readers know what they are clicking on. We should not trick our readers. Misplaced Pages:Cross-namespace redirects is only an essay not policy or a guideline and has been in dispute for years.
- "an admittance that you'll even go so far as to change the guidelines suit your cause." - never even came close to saying this - what I was saying is it is clear not all "get it" so I will reword it in the future so all understand our policy thus leaving noting to chance or misinterpretation next time around.
- Would love to work out how we can fix the hundreds of red links that have been added many many many many articles.Moxy (talk) 23:42, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

Diebtes in First Nation
Hi Moxy, I just noticed you deleted our contribution about diabetes. We are very aware about the difficulties of presenting health issues concerning aboriginal health; ergo we don't want to make someone mad. It would be nice to get an explanation for why you were deleting the part.
Unfortunately we decided on a project with diabetes and FN. This is a very hard task because many things have to be considered when working with First Nation. Our teacher however wants us to contribute on a wikipedia page. Do you have maybe any idea how we can make it more cultural sensitive and integrate it in a format of wikipedia.
Thanks, Verena

Sarnia Article
Hi, Moxy,
I submitted the article Sarnia through the Good Article Nominations process per your directive. In the scope of Wikiprojects Canada, however, I would think the Sarnia article is now much better than C-Class. Is it possible to upgrade the article within the scope of the project? Please let me know. I appreciate the time you took to review the upgrade request. I've worked heavily on Sarnia...almost like I consider it "my" article now, since I live there and it was anathema to me to see it languish with POV, "needs work," and "needs citations" tabs. Regarding your opinion on US/Canada relations
Hi Moxy,
I'm writing to request a second opinion from you regarding a recent dispute between me and another user on the Canada–United States relations. It's under "It's Just Getting Worse." on the current Talk page.
I noticed that you had the exact problem with this user, RJensen, as I do now (you spoke with him in Archive 2). The issue is regarding the weight and influence of his sources (as well as their placement at the beginning of the article). He has put a number of extreme statements in the introduction of article that I do not find represent Canadian beleifs on the whole, such as that they have a "profound fear" their sovereignty will be overwhelmed by the US, and that they are anti-American because they consider themselves the "cultural correctives" of Americans. His sources are very narrow and I cannot find any other sources that believe these specific points. But in the spirit of compromise, I had no problem putting this in another part of the article, but the user ignored that suggestion and has reverted all of my efforts to change this very biased section of the introduction. I am now seeking out another opinion because he does not seem to respect me for my newness to the site (and he has dismissed my criticism of his sources on the basis that I am Californian). He seems to believe that I have to bring in sources that have a direct counterargument to his two sources in the introduction (Tagg and MacClellan), but obscure sources rarely if ever have direct counterarguments. I'm confused about to proceed proving the obscurity of his sources, when their very obscurity makes attention given to them scant. The user also cited sources he used elsewhere in the article (in a separate section) as proof that his sources used in the introduction are legitimate, but those sources only look at the broader points of Canadian anti-Americanism, not at his specific points. Furthermore, you can make the argument that plenty of countries have anti-American sentiment, but it doesn't make it a notable enough issue to bring up such extreme points in the introduction, does it?
But perhaps you don't agree, you have a lot more experience doing this than I do... I understand you are busy, so please don't feel obligated to comment, but I thought you would be an excellent person to ask given your history editing Canadian articles...
(Also, for the record, I posted a number of comments anonymously because I believed I was logged in... new to the site as I mentioned... but the argument on the talk page thus far is only between me and RJensen).
Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by M5500 (talk • contribs) 16:57, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

thank you for reviewing my edit request. I agree Wiki is not the place to advertise an event. You will note the date on my request was the day following the event and therefore does not indicate the entry being used as an advert. A serious piece of new music/ contemporary chamber music specifically composed to honour Terry Fox's life and achievement would certainly warrant a mention with respect to the honours or legacy section of his bio. 174.6.32.222 (talk) 20:25, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for providing the only rational explanation about the presence of the Christianity portal link on the talk page of the article on irreligion. The bigger religion portal eventually links into all the religions in the Misplaced Pages, including Christianity, so I still do not see the point of having a separate Christianity portal link. At any rate, I am very reluctant to edit anything, because I believe that Misplaced Pages has become its own subculture, and one that would take years to learn -- I do not have time. Again, I appreciate your brief but very helpful message. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.12.203.103 (talk) 23:24, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Templates
If it would make deletion easier for you, I could supply you with a complete list of all templates in which I have had a hand. Yours aye, Buaidh 17:20, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Not sure you have noticed but I have only nominated 1 (one of the current ones) of the many templates that have been deleted and nominated in the past. Dont you find it odd you keep getting in this situation? Perhaps you should discus your mass edits of code change before hand or even explain in an edit summary.Moxy (talk) 17:32, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- When you create over 2400 Misplaced Pages templates, you are going to get a few deletion requests. I've been a software engineer for over 41 years, so my feelings seldom get hurt. I am certainly not trying to sneak any subversive templates into Misplaced Pages, nor am I trying to impose my notion of how things ought to be.
- I don't think that Template:Ports poses any threat to Template:Portal. Template:Ports is constructed very differently than Template:Portal, but is deliberately designed to look very much like the latter. If Template:Ports has features that are deemed counterproductive, I will gladly remove or modify them. (The capacity for 60 portal links may be excessive. I used this number in case anyone wanted to link to all of the 50 United States and territories.)
- I think Template:Cto is very useful. This template groups the topic overview links together and separates them from the links to specific subtopics.
- I realize that I have not been tremendously communicative with other users. I have spent most of my career as a solo software fireman, so I am comfortable jumping in when the opportunity presents itself. Yours aye, Buaidh 18:14, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Talkback
Hi. I responded to your comment on my user talk page there. When I came here to tell you about it, I noticed your comment about how you'd like to see people stop tagging and actually try to develop the articles. As one of the most inveterate taggers around, all I can say is that, like with the list of User:John Carter/Religion articles, my goal is to not only tag them for a specific project, but also get together lists of reference sources which contain substantive articles or other content on given subjects, so that for at least some of the projects with which I am involved editors will be able to see, for instance, that the encyclopedia of Duns Scotus (yes, there is one) might serve as a good source for articles relating to that subject. This basically falls in the realm of "infrastructure," which isn't something that gets a lot of attention here, but, if I can get it done, I think it might make editing around here a bit easier and possibly less likely to result in major conflicts for many of the people involved. John Carter (talk) 17:47, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- I am not sure I now what your talking about.. as my comment is not about project banners ..but clean up banners on articles.16:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

French-Canadian rock
Hi there. I am not trying to add "puffery" or to crow-bar in any lesser bands which do not deserve any mention. But why does this section of Canadian rock have not one single example of any artist or band? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:17, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- The section should be expanded about the musical culture of French Canada ...not a listing of bands (that are listed above) were it could be included. Moxy (talk) 18:29, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Are listed above? So you'd be happy to have the band added to just the chronology section (even though they were distinctively Québécois)? Martinevans123 (talk) 20:43, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

Flag of Canada song
Hello Moxy...
May we discuss please, why you deleted the link to the Flag of Canada song? That song was written by a Canadian back in 1965 when the new flag was announced, and was taught in primary schools. My hope is that it could, again, be taught in schools for the Flag's upcoming 50th anniversary. I'm a wikipedia rookie, and perhaps I have posted in error in some way? Please explain. Sincere thanks... --Wendystation (talk) 17:33, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
