John Douglas Story (born 1896, died 1966) - was a prominent Queensland public servant. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and migrated to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, with his parents, as a child. He attended Brisbane Grammar School and Brisbane Technical College. John Douglas Story entered the Queensland Public Service and was Under-Secretary for the Department of Education between 1906 and 1920. He was the Public Service Commissioner from 1920 to 1939.

John Douglas Story worked for the establishment of the University of Queensland and was a foundation member of its senate. The J. D. Story Building, which is the Administration building at the University of Queensland, was named after him as a tribute to him, and the Story Bridge was also named in his honour.
