"Meganura" image

I noticed you removed the image from the Meganura page, noting the fossil to be fake, and edited the description of the image itself. Its great to get correct information, but would you please update the image caption to clarify what points indicate it to be a fake, thus making it suitable for use as a teaching image still.--Kevmin § 19:37, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

News articles are not sufficient reference for animal lengths

Please cease your incessant addition of dubious information to the Crocodilia page. The lengths reported have NOT been verified by a scientist, thus are unreliable and cannot be considered a legitimate source. If we accept every news report of an ultra-gigantic snake/croc/shark/etc, WP will become little more than a dumping ground for "big fish" stories. Given how frequently these reports have turned out to be wrong in the past, accepting them at face value is little more than gullibility, especially when the only current examples are photographs, which are easily staged or doctored to make organisms look much larger (even if unintentionally). No harm will be done if we simply wait for a verification / disproof. Mokele (talk) 18:07, 11 September 2011 (UTC)

I agree with you generally, but beg to differ in this particular case: Here is what zoologist and croc specialist Adam Britton wrote about this case: I've had a look at several photographs of that giant Philippine saltwater crocodile, not to mention a few videos, and I must admit that's probably the largest crocodile I've seen. There's a good chance that this one isn't an exaggeration, although I'd still like to see the measurement and weight independently verified to be certain. I'm so used to reading stories with exaggerated crocodile lengths, that when a genuine enormous crocodile does surface it can be difficult to accept at face value. But from what I've seen, I'd be prepared to believe this one. It's certainly at least 18 feet long, bigger than Cassius, and hopefully it really is 21 feet (6.4 metres). There has been some doubt raised about the weight, but there's so little information on the weights of large crocodiles out that that size extrapolations from existing datasets are likely to be inaccurate for very large crocs. I have a feeling we'll be getting some independent verification soon. I'll keep you posted, but it's pretty exciting to see such a huge crocodile regardless of the actual figure attached to it. Position of Saurophthirus longipes

Herr Doktor, do you have information on Saurophthirus longipes? Should we consider it as a member of the extinct order Nakridletia? Thank you for your reply in advance. AshLin (talk) 17:18, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Reference
Hello. Saurophthirus is not closely related to Nakridletia, but rather is a true flea related to the giant fleas from the Jurassic of China just described by Huang et al. (2012) (http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/vaop/ncurrent/full/nature10839.html), who remark the following: "Saurophthirus, a genus of flea from the Early Cretaceous of Russian Transbaikalia, is also a parasitic insect that may have had siphonate mouthparts, compact antenna and posteriorly directed setae1. It probably has very close affinity with our fleas from the Mesozoic era.".--Dr. Günter Bechly (talk) 18:41, 2 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your clarification. AshLin (talk) 08:19, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
You are awarded an original barnstar, for your work on Sclerocephalus. I believe this your first barnstar or community award. Congratulations! May many more come your way!

Xerces Blue butterfly image

Luckily, I possess the mail from the museum allowing use of the image File:Xerces blue.jpg. I was of the impression that only images uploaded after 2005 have a problem. Let me know who I need to forward it to. Jay (talk) 23:04, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

A blog is not a valid source! Unless you can show that the swastika is used by a significant portion of current organizations of Germanic and Norse Heathenry as a PRIMARY symbol, the text deleted by me was highly misleading.--Dr. Günter Bechly (talk) 20:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)
