DYK Nomination for List of U.S. Presidents by net worth

I added a lot of prose to this article right now. Futurist110 (talk) 03:19, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

I also added a large lead to this article. Futurist110 (talk) 00:15, 16 August 2012 (UTC)
I also added some pictures to this article. Do I need to add or fix anything else before getting a DYK nomination for this article? Futurist110 (talk) 21:30, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
I also enlarged the table right now. Futurist110 (talk) 22:34, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Myxogastria, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Bug and Deadwood (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

DYK for Friedrich Eckenfelder

Updated DYK queryOn 24 August 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Friedrich Eckenfelder, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that German painter Friedrich Eckenfelder (self-portrait pictured) received an order from the Nazi headquarters to paint a portrait of Hitler? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Friedrich Eckenfelder. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

WikiCup 2012 August newsletter

The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) once again finishes the round in first place, leading Pool B. Grapple X writes articles about television, and especially The X-Files and Millenium, with good articles making up the bulk of the score.
  2. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) led Pool A this round. Fourth-place finalist last year, Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, and has reached the final primarily off the back of his massive number of did you knows.
  3. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) was second in Pool B. Ruby2010 writes primarily on television and film, and scores primarily from good articles.
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third in Pool B. Casliber is something of a WikiCup veteran, having finished sixth in 2011 and fourth in 2010. Casliber writes on the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. Over half of Casliber's points this round were bonus points from the high-importance articles he has worked on.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second in Pool A. Also writing on biology, especially marine biology, Cwmhiraeth received 390 points for one featured article (Bivalvia) and one good article (pelican), topping up with a large number of did you knows.
  6. New York City Muboshgu (submissions) was third in Pool A. Muboshgu writes primarily on baseball, and this round saw Muboshgu's first featured article, Derek Jeter, promoted on its fourth attempt at FAC.
  7. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) was fourth in Pool A. She writes on a variety of topics, including horses, but this round also saw the high-importance lettuce reach featured article status.
  8. Canada Sasata (submissions) is another WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist in 2009 and 2010. He writes mostly on mycology.

However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle: Russia GreatOrangePumpkin (submissions), England Ealdgyth (submissions), England Calvin999 (submissions), Poland Piotrus (submissions), North Carolina Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), Cherokee Nation The Bushranger (submissions) and North Macedonia 1111tomica (submissions). We hope to see you all next year.

On the subject of next year, a discussion has been opened here. Come and have your say about the competition, and how you'd like it to run in the future. This brainstorming will go on for some time before more focused discussions/polls are opened. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Misplaced Pages talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Misplaced Pages:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. GA review

Hello GreatOrangePumpkin! First of all thank you very much for reviewing the article Francis Marrash. I'm not sure I understood what you meant about "equality among peoples". I think Moreh was referring to "equality" between the Ottoman Turks and all the other peoples (Syrians, Azeris, Armenians, etc.) that were under their yoke in the Middle East, hence the use of "peoples" . What do you think? I changed the previous sentence in the paragraph, does it make the transition more clear? Thank you so much for your help! Bryan P. C. C. (talk) 12:36, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

I referred to the odd punctuation: "—Suheil Bushrui and Joe Jenkins have stated that "Marrash's originality of thought shines through in his poetico-philosophical notion of love".. Regards.--Kürbis () 12:47, 1 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh! haha you're right, it does look strange, will change that. Thank you again! Bryan P. C. C. (talk) 13:47, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Another GA review?

Hi there, GreatOrangePumpkin. It's me again with another George Harrison article up for GAN. Would be great if you could take this one on: Bangla Desh (song) ... Regards, JG66 (talk) 12:05, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I will review but can you do me a favour? Uncharted and promotional singles should be referenced in George Harrison discography#Singles. Perhaps you have a book with all of his singles and promotional songs. Regards.--Kürbis () 12:16, 7 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi GOP. Bit confused: "Uncharted and promotional singles ..." "Bangla Desh" was a standard 45, and it did chart − it's just that one-sided promos of the song were also issued for US radio. I don't think the latter situation was that unusual (promos for DJs, in advance of the actual single). Happy to help but not sure what you want me to add to the discography. (Or were you not talking about Bangla Desh, necessarily − do you mean add refs for the promo-only singles listed there?) Cheers, JG66 (talk) 11:30, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
"do you mean add refs for the promo-only singles listed there?" - exactly :). Regards.--Kürbis () 16:24, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Also, if you don't mind, I will review other articles which were longer in the queue first then this article. Regards.--Kürbis () 16:25, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Oh well, someone else'll probably get it ... On that GH discog page, I've added refs for the promos up to 2000 (when the Madinger & Easter book was published); will keep my eye out for refs for post-2000 promos. Couldn't help but notice there's quite a bit of incorrect info in the main body of text and also in the chart placings − eg he did have some singles that charted between '81 and '86, the US Hot 100 placings for a couple seem to have been listed under German singles chart. (Put it this way, Wake Up My Love definitely charted at #53 in the US.) Also, it's very unusual to see Beatles break-up given as 31 Dec '70 in a musical-career discussion. Incorrect, in fact (I'd say), cos Mac won that lawsuit in early '71, so that would be when the power of any band-dossolving lawsuit would've taken place. Beatles break-up normally given as 10 April 1970. Will work on the text if I have time. Regards, JG66 (talk) 15:18, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
Hi again. I was just looking at that George Harrison discography lead-in text, intending to correct a few of the points, add missing info etc, but then it dawned on me: why does this discography article contain an attempt at an overview of his career anyway? Comparing with discog pages for the other solo Beatles, for Dylan, The Beatles themselves, The Rolling Stones − there's nothing like the discussion that GH's discography gets. I was about to save my changes to the page but figured they probably belong in the main George Harrison article instead (unless the details are there already). I suppose there's no reason not to have this much introductory text on his discography page, but it is unusual. Are you particularly attached to the piece, GoP? My thoughts are that, instead of looking to correct or add to it, we should probably cut it right down, mentioning only the commercial peaks, change of record label, noted collaboration with Wilburys, etc. What do you think? DYK for Myxogastria

Updated DYK queryOn 9 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Myxogastria, which you created or substantially expanded. Dostoyevsky

Hey, I'm happy to review Dostoyevsky. I warn you, though, that it may be a few days, maybe into the weekend, because I'm busy with real life and I wanted to complete an article I'm revamping (Joan Ganz Cooney before I move onto any other major WP projects. I'm almost done with Cooney, though, so I may be able to get to this before this. It looks like D's gonna fail its GAC, but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be reviewed, and if you resubmit and let me know about it, I can go in and pass it quickly. Sorry I can't do anything as immediate as you probably would like. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 04:05, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

I didn't say that I was gonna fail this article. I'm simply conjecturing, based upon the review that's currently there, that it will unfortunately probably fail. I have no idea if it does or doesn't meet the criteria for a GA; I haven't even really looked at it yet. But no worries; over the weekend, I'll try and review it and if it does fail its current GAC, I can simply pass it if it's eligible. If not, we can work together to improve it. GAC is different than FAC in that because only one person needs to review it, any reviewer can pass it if it meets the criteria, even if it isn't a part of the formal GAC process. You can always resubmit and ask someone to review it; that way, you don't have to wait so long. I have a GAN currently (Themes in Maya Angelou's autobiographies), but the backlog is so long, so I may ask you to review it for me. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 18:40, 12 September 2012 (UTC)
Ok, then I misunderstood. Yes, I am happy to review this article but not before I review the older entries that are currently on review. Regards.--Kürbis () 19:14, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi again Kurbis. I've finished the GA review; well, at least up to "Religious beliefs". I stopped there because I stand by my suggestion, as stated in my initial review, that you should fork some of the later sections. If you need assistance with it, let me know. As Super Martian Robot Girl would say, , "Here I am to help!" ;) Whenever I do a GA review, I offer to do a copyedit, since I think it's easier than directing the main editor to make a bunch of corrections--and saves everyone time, too. I'm happy to do that for this article, too. I wasn't familiar with D before reading the article, so it's been fun and educational. Christine (Figureskatingfan) (talk) 05:17, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

I am not sure what needs to be forked. I followed the style of Mary Shelley. Regards.--Kürbis () 10:21, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: The Concert in Central Park

This is a note to let the main editors of The Concert in Central Park know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on September 19, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/September 19, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Misplaced Pages talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Misplaced Pages:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

The concert drew 500,000 people

The Concert in Central Park is the first live album by American folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, released in February 1982 on Warner Bros. Records. It was recorded in September 1981 at a free benefit concert in Central Park, New York City, where the pair performed in front of more than 500,000 people. Proceeds from the endeavor went toward the redevelopment and maintenance of the run-down green space in the middle of Manhattan. This concert and album marked the start of a short-lived reunion for Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. The concept of a benefit concert in Central Park had been proposed by Parks Commissioner Gordon Davis and promoter Ron Delsener. Television channel HBO agreed to carry the concert, and worked with Delsener to decide on Simon & Garfunkel as the appropriate act for this event. Besides hit songs from their years as a duo, their set-list included material from their solo and duo careers, and covers. (more...)

Featured Lists

Are you allowed to nominate more than 1 featured list at a time, and how come do they not feature on the main page every day?--Lucky102 (talk) 16:14, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

1) No, only when the first received substantial support or reviewers' concerns have been substantially addressed (see the blue box in WP:FLC) 2) Because there are not enough featured lists at the moment. However, there is still some progress as TFL is now (I think) featured twice weekly. But you may still ask here whether they implemented this idea. Regards.--Kürbis () 17:19, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
How come there are so many nominations, but few are chosen?--Lucky102 (talk) 19:48, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
