Location and introduction
Chak 138/10-R is a village in Tehsil Jahanian District Khanewal, Punjab Province Pakistan. It has two parts known as 138/10-R Qadeem (old) which is mainland and 138/10-R Jadeed (new). It is located at 30.0144°N 71.729°E, at 415 feet above from sea level. Its climate is dry and hot in the daytime, a lot of dust moves around with the blowing wind, nights are usually pleasant.
History
It's old name was Muktasr before partition of Indian sub-continent in 1947. Afterwards, it got its current name 138/10-R. "Gerneli Sarrak" (The Generals' Road) passes by the entrance of village in perpendicular direction and goes towards Multan-Vehari road. Muhammad Bin Qasim, the first and youngest Muslim invader of Sub-Continent, is said to have passed through this road while on his way to Multan.
Education
The village has two main institutions. Govt Higher Secondary School (for boys)(BISE Multan affiliation number: 300524) and Govt Girls High School (BISE Multan affiliation number: 101011). These two schools serve by educating the new generations not only from Chak 138/10-R but some neighboring villages (like 139/10-R, Basti Balochan, Zorkot, 142/10-R, Bhidki) as well, because these villages or towns either do not have schools or they are just up to primary level and middle level.
The village also has some private Tution academies and English-medium schools. Although none of the institutes in the village meet the requirements of a good institute of 21st Century, these institutes have laid the foundation of education of many doctors, engineers, army personnel and people of other services.Chak 138/10-R has the highest (Not 100%) literacy rate among all the villages in this region.
There are 4 Relegious Education Centres 2 for male students and two for female students. Each pair (1 for male, 1 for female) belongs to Sunni Muslims and Ahl-e-Hadith Muslims. Some students of these institutes belong to this village and some are from other areas of region. In these relegious institutes, students learn the Holy Quran by heart, learn Holy Quran with its meanings, and some subjects (Urdu, Pak Studies etc.) which are typical in Govt schools as well.
Transport
The one and only public transport available from inside the village is Rickshaw. (This Rickshaw is also referred to as Qingqi Rickshaw, Auto-Rickshaw, Chaand Garri). This rickshaw takes the passengers to a stop on Multan-Vehari road, named as Pull 114/10-R. From there passengers can go to the cities like Multan, Vehari, Jahanian etc.
Another option is to get out of the village after a walk of about 650 meters from center of village and reach Pyara Pulli (1KM if go to Pakka Pull side). There one can get Vans which travel from Multan-Dunyapur Road to Jahanian City passing through Pull 114/10-R. These Vans can take passengers to Thatha Sadiqabad and some villages on West of 138/10-R.
Rent-A-Car and Rent-A-Motorcycle facility is also available.
Life in the village
Population of village is between 20,000 to 25,000 permanent residents.
A large number of villagers are Govt servants, most of them in Education and Health Department. Some of them do jobs in the village and others in neighboring villages or cities nearby. A large number of youngsters are part of Armed Forces of Pakistan (Army, Navy and Air-force). Some people are serving in Punjab Police as well. Almost all of the people are related to agriculture and livestock also (whether they have other jobs or not). Crops like Wheat, Cotton, Corn, Sugar cane and others are grown. Village also has some fruit farms (Mango, Orange, Fluter etc.) around it and those are property of their respective owners in village. Some people do the trading of crops and livestock.
There is a large number of small shops in the village. They keep the items of domestic needs. Again, these shops not only serve the people of this village but those of neighboring villages as well. Village has two bakeries as well. Almost all the daily-life services, from repairing bicycle to print a page from internet, are available in village.
Village has land-line telephone service as well as coverage from some Cellular operators like Warid, Telenor and Mobilink. Narrow-band Internet facility is also available with Cellular operators and V PTCL Wireless.
There is a dispensary (a small Health Care unit) in village but it is almost non-functional. Some B class medics and Homeopathic practitioners are available but mostly people have to go to Jahanian or Multan if they face minor to major health problems.
Village has a water supply system and a fine waste-drainage system. There is no unpaved house in village. There are about 7 to 8 Masjids (Mosques), 2 Eid Gah, 1 Janaza Gah and 1 central graveyard.
People in the village are fond of sports activities and encourage the athletes and players. Most liked games of youth are Cricket and Football, while Kabaddi is liked by everyone. A few low-level sports like Gulli-Danda is also famous in some children and youth as well. There are two big playgrounds and some small grounds as well for sports activities. One of the two main grounds belong to Govt Higher Secondary School (for boys). And the other is a piece of agricultural land owned by Naveed Iqbal Jagah (s/o Iqbal Jagah) and they have dedicated it as a playground to encourage sports activities in the village. Therefore, this ground is named as Jagah Stadium after clan of its owners. One famous small ground is the same place used as Eid Gah of Sunni's, Janaza Gah of all. Therefore, use of it as a playground is disputed among the playing younger people and some senior citizens.
