The program is purported to be reality based, however, it has received wide-spread criticism from those who suggest that the content is staged for dramatic effect<ref>{{cite web|author=February 22, 2012 by Chris Bernardo |url=http://www.chrisbernardoblog.com/storage-hunters-fake |title=Reality TV = Storage Hunters Fake and Exposed |publisher=Chris Bernardo |date=2012-09-06 |accessdate=2012-09-06}}</ref>. Adding to the claims that the show is staged is the fact that two of the characters introduced in the second season, Scott "Scott the Mover" Tassone and Chrissy Kachadorian-Tassone, were not known to act as storage hunters until their appearance on the series. The "Scott the Mover" persona was utilized for his local comedy routine until his initial appearance on Storage Hunters<ref>{{cite web|author=October 2, 2007 by NAYELI PAGAZA |url=http://www.ocregister.com/news/hailey-177798-comedy-canyon.html |title=Sports bar features Comedy Store comedian |publisher=OC Register |date=2012-09-06 |accessdate=2012-09-06}}</ref>. | |||
There has been controversy surrounding the inclusion of the Scott Tassone character. Additionally, Scott Michael Tassone has had a number of incidents with officials in the State of California.
