59th National Film Awards

Hi, Dharmadhyaksha / AnimeshKulkarni, I'm beginning the copy-edit you requested to the above article on the GOCE Request page. Please feel free to contact me, or to correct or revert my edits if I'm doing something I shouldn't. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:04, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Thanks for taking it up. We were awaiting GOCE member to work on the article for long time. - Vivvt • (Talk) 04:17, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! Also i am sure that other members of WP:INCINE wouldn't hesitate to contact you if need be. ||Dharmadhyaksha|| {T/C} 04:23, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
No worries; guidance and corrections are always welcome. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 05:34, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi again, I'd like to ask what the convention is on Indian articles for awards with two names. I'd like to use both in section titles thus: "Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus Award)" - so only one version needs to remain in the prose. Secondly, should I give preference to the official title Swarna Kamal or the English title Golden Lotus Award in prose? Or perhaps I shouldn't change this. I've consulted the MOS but can't find a relevant policy. Thanks, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 04:09, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

There is no fixed convention as such. Other Indian film awards (eg Filmfare Awards) use only one title, which is English as they don't have any Indic titles. For other non-filmy Indian awards, like Padma Bhushan, there is no English title and hence only Indic title is used.
This is the first time anyone is really reviewing this article. Hence we dont have any rule. But media and the actual awards use the Hindi titles. English titles are mere translations. ||Dharmadhyaksha|| {T/C} 04:43, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Thank you; I think it's probably best to leave this alone - but if I see any variants I'll standardise on the dominant version and leave section titles as they are. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 20:37, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm declaring the copy-edit done; please feel free to contact me about any issues arising from it. Thanks again for your help above, and good luck with the FLC nomination. :-) Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 06:40, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Sachin Kundalkar

Updated DYK queryOn 19 September 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sachin Kundalkar, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that 2009's Marathi film Gandha, written and directed by Sachin Kundalkar, blends three different stories with a common factor of the human sense of smell? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Sachin Kundalkar. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

GR

Shall we get the GR started in order to have DYK on 24th Oct? - Vivvt • (Talk) 03:39, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Of course! Was planning on listening on this weekend. ||Dharmadhyaksha|| {T/C} 03:49, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Great. Lets plan for DYK first and then will take it forward sometime later. Current brief in each row is pretty bad, I feel. (59th-CE-After-Effect :P)- Vivvt • (Talk) 03:54, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
No one allowed me to listen on this weekend. They kept dragging me away to various places.
We are NOT doing ce on that for DYK. ||Dharmadhyaksha|| {T/C} 03:31, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
LOL. I was busy completing Mokashi this weekend. Got more details than I had already (...and took lot of my time grasping it).It should be done in a day or so. Will push that for DYK and then will turn to GR. - Vivvt • (Talk) 04:31, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Done with PM. - Vivvt • (Talk) 03:54, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Hey

I had seen a comment by you on India Talk page recently and thought that User:Dharmadhyaksha is some new guy, I wanted to search something in your talk page's archive and got to know that you now have a brand new user name. Its is very good username. I was looking for some kind of link to any discussion about the reliability of tabloids like "Mumbai Mirror" or "Pune Mirror". I remember seeing some kind of discussion on your talk page. Can you let me know whether there was any discussion on Reliable source notice board or somewhere?--sarvajna (talk) 06:16, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard - This is it! TheSpecialUser  06:24, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the compliments on new name.
I can't recall my participation in any discussion about Mumbai & Pune Mirror in particular. We surely were discussing Times of India at Sitush's talk page. Maybe you read that. They all are from same publishing house.
And if i may; what matter is it that needs you to hunt this down? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:33, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks TSU, I know about Misplaced Pages:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard but wanted to know if there was any such discussion. Dharmadhyaksha I just wanted to update the article Darshan (actor) mostly about his wife beating episode for which he was arrested. Bangalore Mirror covered more(as per my friend) about this incident than ToI. Now if I don't see something in ToI but only in Bangalore Mirror should I consider it as RS or just some sensational news.--sarvajna (talk) 08:14, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) We may be able to simplify this. I vaguely recall the Darshan story. He was arrested but the crux of the matter is whether he was found guilty. Was he? - Sitush (talk) 09:13, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
No because his wife withdrew her complaint and instead gave a reason that she broke her arm in an accident and burns on her body were due to a cooking accident. --sarvajna (talk) 09:27, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Then it has no place in the article. - Sitush (talk) 09:28, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
I understand the point you are trying to make however this is not some minor incident, significant coverage was given and the person's wife had given a statement about violence only to retract it later. There were other incidents like the actor's fans going on rampage among other things. It is a noteable incident. --sarvajna (talk) 09:38, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, but it is controversial and it amounted to nothing because the claim was withdrawn. Highlighting something that effectively amounted to nothing other than a popular frenzy is contrary to BLP and also undue weight. Some might even call it muckraking. At least, that is how I usually see such situations handled. You could always query this interpretation at WP:BLPN but until this is determined, the question of the reliability etc of local rags is somewhat irrelevant. - Sitush (talk) 09:46, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

I never heard of the case myself. (I don't mean it is trivial. Its just that i don't follow South Indian film stars.) But as Sarvajna says if the incident was much talked about, there would be refs in notable newspapers of it. If his wife had officially registered a complaint with Police or other authorities and then retracted it, both things can go in the biography. Make sure that it goes in a single sentence so as to not give any undue weightage by stretching it beyond limits and also not giving half impression in case people are reading only single sentences. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 11:08, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

It is a one year old news, we were discussing about domestic violence and saw that there is nothing written about Darshan on wikipedia, a simple google search for "Darshan wife beating" will give you good number of links.--sarvajna (talk) 16:13, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
Did you want to include this example in the article Domestic violence? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 09:32, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
Not really, nothing has been proven yet also forgot to mention although the actor's wife wanted to withdrew the complaint the Judge did not allow that. The actor is on bail as far as I know. I just wanted to update the page of the actor with this detail. --sarvajna (talk) 10:07, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
So if the case is already filed and he is on bail, i wouldn't object this inclusion on his article. What say Sitush? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 10:16, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
I'd like to see some recent sources that say this, not stuff from six months ago etc. As with Misplaced Pages articles, newspapers often report the start of an alleged scandal etc but then lose interest and don't report the outcome unless it prolongs the issue. So, they might report that he was bailed but not that it was later rescinded. There is also the issue of the incredibly lengthy and complex legal process in India, which makes tracking stuff difficult. This really is dodgy territory and I would encourage you to take it to the BLP noticeboard. I wouldn't have a problem if there was a report saying that he had been found guilty, but until then I think the general rule is that we err on the side of caution for the reasons that I have stated. - Sitush (talk) 10:23, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Discussion of author Babasaheb Purandare at the Reliable Sources Noticeboard

There is a discussion at the RS Noticeboard as to whether Purandare qualifies as a WP:RS for the article Shivaji. CSD Notification

The image File:Asoka handagama.jpg looks like it may be a valid CSD, but I prefer not to delete a page unless the creator has been notified. I understand that sometimes automated tools fail to do the notification for some reason. Not sure if that was the case, but could you make the notification?SPhilbrick(Talk) 15:33, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Oh sorry! I had manually tagged it and hence forgot to notify the uploader. I was using IE8 that time. Done now. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:03, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks, now deleted. --SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:15, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
This users many uploads are copyvios. Now tagging them. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:19, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Yes, but all (I looked at) have Non-free rationales. Poorly filled out, to be sure, but I'm on uncertain ground here. Does a non-free image with a non-free rationae qualify for CSD, or does it require review at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content review? --SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:43, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
Oops, my bad, you are posting them at FfD, rather than CSD. Sorry.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 16:46, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
There are some CSD worthy too. Hence mentioned it here. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:50, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK'S

Are you allowed to nominate more than one DYK at the same time?--Lucky102 (talk) 15:01, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I am unaware of any such rule. Also i can't imagine why something like this would be there. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 16:49, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, but what do you mean?--Lucky102 (talk) 19:46, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Nominate as many DYKs as you can. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 04:08, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Do I need to ask the creator of the page so that I can nominate it.--Lucky102 (talk) 08:36, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
No! You don't need to. But after nominating just inform them. Just in case reviewing raises some question, they could easily help you. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 03:08, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

DYK for Lanka Dahan

Updated DYK queryOn 8 October 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Lanka Dahan, which you created or substantially expanded. Hello

Please contribute to the Bigg Boss 6 article by providing non-copyvio summaries for the show. Since i'm unable to provide non-copyvio content, i think you should take the initiative to use your advanced english skills to replace the masses of copyvio with wiki-suitable content. thank you. :) --I'mTitannium 13:34, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

I am sorry. I don't know anything about the show and hence can't edit. Also i do not wish to write trivial he-coughed-she-sneezed articles. You can rephrase the content from where you are copying and then add it. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 14:37, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Why? §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 17:46, 15 October 2012 (UTC)
The useless mathematics is featured on the articles i've suggested. Remove them from there too. Averages are a part of Dancing with the stars pages. So it would be only fair wthat you completely get rid of all teh useless mathematics. -- I'm Titanium  06:15, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't know anything about those American shows. Maybe they show average scores. Maybe they use it somehow in determining elimination. As the average scores are not considered in JDJ, they are useless. No Original Research Here! Just because someone else is adding them on other articles does not mean it should be added here too. As it is not relevant, it will be deleted. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:38, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
No they dont use it to determine elimination in Dancing with the stars too. It's not even consistent. Some of their articles have them some don't. Out of 14 seasons only 8 have them. LOL. Why dont you place a warning there and the relevant editors will consult u with what they are used for.-- I'm Titanium  06:48, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
I don't have to bother myself with what the American world is doing. If its irrelevant for JDJ, it will be removed. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:51, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
And i'll keep reverting until you get opinions on this. You just cant remove something that has been gping on and adapted on all the franchise articles.
Let's take other people's take on this and then decide what to do. I didnot add the average section Me Anon did. There has got to be a reason for that. -- I'm Titanium  06:57, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Fine! Keep it. Some other user will remove it.
And "Me Anon did it" and hence should be kept is just logical fallacy. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 07:05, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
WOW. You really are so confused. You just don't know what to do. Running away is no option. Try to reason and win your case. If you're that scared don't intervene in the first place. -- I'm Titanium  07:18, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
Only flawed reasoning can beat another flawed reasoning. I am not good at that. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 07:30, 16 October 2012 (UTC)
  • Hello there. I saw this because of the comments by both of you on my user talk page, and I thought I would comment. I don't know enough about this specific situation to know whether we should include averages or not; however, Misplaced Pages policy is not crystal clear on this. If you read down near the bottom of the no original research policy, you will see that there is a section on routine calculations. This says the following:

Routine calculations do not count as original research. Basic arithmetic, such as adding numbers, converting units, or calculating a person's age, is allowed provided there is consensus among editors that the calculation is an obvious, correct, and meaningful reflection of the sources.

So, to me, this is not so much a matter of whether it counts as original research or not, as the policy allows this kind of calculation. Rather, it is a matter of whether there is a consensus to include this kind of calculation in the specific articles in question. To find this out we will need to talk about it, and possibly ask uninvolved editors for their opinion. Have you discussed this on any article talk pages? If you have, it would be very useful if you could give me a link to the discussions. Best regards — Mr. Stradivarius on tour 06:37, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
I guess User:Me Anon added them cause they were on the US version. I found them relevant so kept it. -- I'm Titanium  06:42, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Mr. S for your views. But i am not interested in taking up this discussion on talk pages. If Imtitanium and other editors want to keep it, let them have it. They can also go and make pie charts, plot graphs, calculate percentages, show performance ratio and what not if they want to. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {T/C} 06:45, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
