Welcome!
WELCOME!! Hello, Derek R Bullamore! I want to personally welcome you on behalf of the Misplaced Pages community. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you haven't already, you can put yourself in the new user log and the list of users so you can be properly introduced to everyone. Don't forget to be bold, and don't be afraid of hungry Wikipedians...there's a rule about not biting newcomers. Some other good links are the tutorial, how to edit a page, or if you're really stuck, see the help pages. Misplaced Pages is held up by Five Pillars...I recommend reading about them if you haven't already. Finally, it would be really helpful if you would sign your name on talk pages, so people can get back to you quickly. It's easy to do this by clicking the button (next to the one with the "W" crossed out) one from the end on the left. If that's confusing, or if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a ♪ at my talk page (by clicking the plus sign (+) next to the tab at the top that says "edit this page")...and again, welcome!--ViolinGirl 00:20, 18 December 2005 (UTC)

Young Justice: LegacyTags
Hello. I've removed the Uncat tag which you placed on the Young Justice: Legacy article because I now have added some categories. Feel free to check them. KidXap (talk) 02:33, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello again. I've also changed the style of the citations on the Young Justice: Legacy article and removed the tag. If this has not been done right, feel free to add the tag again. XapApp (talk) 12:22, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
John Taylor?
Hi Derek, a John Taylor has been added to the "Players earning international caps while at Hull Kingston Rovers" section of the Hull Kingston Rovers article, would you know whether a John Taylor did play for Hull KR, Great Britain, and Yorkshire? If so, what era did he play in? I don't believe anyone of that name played in a Test Match for Great Britain, but tourists to Australia & New Zealand are less well documented. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 08:09, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Degsy, good to hear from you. There was a John Taylor who played for Hull KR between 1959 and 1965, and then 1967 and 1969. He made 197 appearances, scoring 48 tries and one goal. He became Rovers' first Australian 'tourist' in the 1961/2 season (when Colin Hutton was the national side's trainer/coach). I have no record as to whether he actually played for GB on that tour, nor indeed any appearances for Yorkshire. Taylor was sold to Castleford for £6,000 in 1965, but re-signed to Hull KR in 1967. Taylor moved on to York in 1969. From memory, his career was somewhat dogged by injury. (In fact, he believe he missed out on playing in the 1964 Challenge Cup Final against Widnes, due to injury). Most of the information comes from my little book, now almost 30 years old, which is extensively cited as a source in Hull KR's Wiki article. I hope that helps a little. Cheers, Derek R Bullamore (talk) 11:10, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- I've created an article for John Taylor, please feel free to correct any errors or omissions. Best Regards DynamoDegsy (talk) 13:25, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Well done - good article. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:31, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
A. Sandham
A. Sandham played Hooker for Wales while at Hull Kingston Rovers in the 5-31 defeat to England at The Watersheddings, Oldham on Saturday 20 January 1912, would you have any more details on this player? His forename would be a start! Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 15:03, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- The only 'Sandham' I can find is W. Sandham. Almost certainly the same man though. He was second top try scorer for the Robins in both the 1910/11 and 1911/12 seasons, and played against Broughton Rangers on 11 October 2009. In 1912/13, his 25 tries were a then club record for a forward. Link here to the A. Sandham name. I can not find a mention of him post World War I. According to my trusty book, he played 183 games, scoring 87 tries (261 points) - pretty good for a hooker. But no christian name... sorry.
- I've created a William Sandham article; once again, please feel free to correct any errors or omissions. I found an interesting webpage about him being a "Probable" for the 1910 Great Britain Lions tour of Australia and New Zealand. Should the date of the match you mentioned above against Broughton Rangers be 11 October 1909, and was this William Sandham's début? Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 13:21, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
- Well done on the new article. The game was against Broughton Rangers on 11 October 1909, and our William was in a photograph taken before the match, which is in my book. He also appears in another photo for a match against St Helens, dated 2 September 1909 - which suggests the Broughton game was not his debut appearance. However, Sandham does not appear in another photo, taken to commemorate Rovers match against the first touring Australian side in this country, dated 21 November 1908 (which Hull KR won 21-16). Another picture, entitled "Hull Kingston Rovers N.U.F.C. 1912-13" also includes Sandham. I am wondering if he succumbed in World War I - my wife is trying to track this down - but a date of birth would be useful !
- Interestingly, vaguely, is that I was at the match when Phil Lowe broke Sandham's try scoring record for a Hull KR forward - even that was a long time ago now ! Phil is now a publican at a hostelry about four miles away from me. It includes memorabilia from his playing days. He's a lovely fella. Cheers,
- Looking for someone born in Wales with a birth compatible with a circa-1910 playing era, then according to FreeBMD, the birth of a William Edward Sandham was registered during July→September 1884 in Holywell district, and the birth of a William Sandham was registered during July→September 1887 in Hay district... of course it could be neither of these chaps. Best Regards. DynamoDegsy (talk) 08:09, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Is a Yorkshireman interested in learning more Scots?
Hi, I'm a Master Editor here as well. I've recently taken an interest in Scots WP. Years ago, I was present at a Burns Night where our haggis was Addressed, and I understood very little.
I am embarrassed to say how few active users Scots WP has, and how few are Scotsmen. (My family's originally from the Cotswolds and Brummagem.)
I have seen you repair some of my Linkrot tags here. (Thank you very much for that.)
I have recently introduced that tag to Scots WP, but do not have the manpower to do more than just tag.
Any interest in applying your technique to our shocking degree of rot?
The vast majority of Scots articles are translations from here, so a tagged article in Scots is likely to have (or have had) an untagged article here. (Killing two birds, as it were.)
I don't want to impose on your time, but if you are available at all we could certainly use a helping hand.
In Canada, Varlaam (talk) 15:43, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hello Varlaam. I am sorry but I must decline. The English version of Misplaced Pages keeps me more than busy, and since school - many years ago - I have been hopeless at languages. Plus I am English, so I rather liked the original idea of Hadrian's Wall. Goodness me, our cheeky neighbours will be muttering about independence next... what's that !?!
- Oh, are you speaking of Hadrian's Waw, as Scots WP would have it?
- The independence cheek does not sit well with me either; we have our absurd Quebeckers on this side of the Pond.
- I don't fully understand how your Reflinks technique works but I suspect that very little knowledge of Scots is required.
- Well, do continue with your good works on this side of the Waw. Problems there will still be on the savage other side if you ever feel like an adventure.
- Cheers, Varlaam (talk) 03:11, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Hello Derek, just saying thank you for the alterations on the wiki article I have been creating/ editing. Valerie Masters
Ring any bells? Not a noticeably successful recording career, but interesting now as she was co-host on J. Savile's first TV appearances in 1960. Surprising that no-one seems to have sought her out yet, as it seems she's still alive. I feel a stub coming on. Any info you can give me? Ghmyrtle (talk) 23:00, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ummm.... the name does ring a bell, but the information in your stub stirs no real memory for me. To be honest, I can not think of anything I might have, or access to, which would enhance what you already have unearthed. I guess she was a Katie Boyle of the day, never quite reaching the relative heights of Marion Montgomery or Kathy Kirby. Why does Doctor Who keep nagging at me ?? I am away in Cropton this weekend. Something may come to me, as I sink another 'Monkman's Slaughter'. Cheers... in more ways than one.

A barnstar for you!

Dear Derek,
I would like to show my appreciation for your multiple edits. I would like also to ask you to act on my behalf and to accept my edit request published at http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Eric_Dill#Edit_request_on_2_November_2012 I would appreciate you understanding. Best wishes, Daniel Dwdimov (talk) 14:49, 5 November 2012 (UTC) |
Thank you for the barnstar. I think it would be better for those more familiar with the subject matter, and possibly the viewpoint of an independent administrator, to assess your dilemma. Unfortunately, I fulfil neither criteria. Regards,

Please explain You keep on removing {{Barelinks}} from Love (The Beatles album) (e.g. here) while there are still several bare URLs. Can you explain on the talk there why? —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 02:45, 9 November 2012 (UTC)

See it turn blue! But, this says born 1925, and this says 1928. Any ideas? Strange to realise that, in our lifetime, the world was once like this - watch and enjoy! Ghmyrtle (talk) 10:46, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well done. I must admit the name meant nothing to me. The Pathe News film was a real treat though - I always wanted one of those train sets. Had to make do with Minic ! Cheers,

- Sadly, I must be much older than you then. I remember his name well from the Light Programme in the fifties and sixties. Ghmyrtle (talk) 14:09, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well I was not going to say anything, but.... We could not afford the Light Programme - I had to make do with the Heavy one. I do remember Muffin the Mule - nearly got arrested twice. Incidentally, since we are going down memory lane, I notice that Muffin's article is not referenced. After my experiences, maybe I'll leave that to you !

Changing the subject, I've just noticed, and reverted, an old unreferenced edit about the birth name of Emile Ford, which was the subject of some edit warring a couple of years ago. Do you have any more info on that? Ghmyrtle (talk) 16:25, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, 16 October 1937 is what I've got. I'd forgotten about the edit war over this fact. Probably so too have those involved - we will see.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 16:52, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- I think it's more a question of his name, rather than date of birth, though. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:52, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Well done on Ford's talk page - I've been slow out of the blocks on that one. - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 16:19, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

Broken link on Distributed Antenna System article
Hi Derek: Sorry to bother you. I tried to go and edit or delete the 2nd reference link on the bottom of the Distributed Antenna System article since it is not working, but I couldn't get to it. Could you please tell me how to do it? Thanks, Matt --Matthewdsharp (talk) 07:13, 19 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Matthewdsharp (talk • contribs) 07:09, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. I am not sure why your edit did not work. Did you attempt to delete it from the 'references' section, rather than from within the body of the main article ? I can only suggest you have another go and see what happens.
Reflinks
Hi. I became aware of the Reflinks tool when you used it on a page I'd recently marked for linkrot. So I tried it on The Village Market and only got the deadlinks marked. I see you reapplied it to the same article and got all the bare urls fixed, too. I must have not used it properly. Rest assured I will try it again some time: this seems like a very valuable tool. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:22, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Hello. Yes, it is a useful and fairly simple tool. Sometimes it does need manual intervention to help it along (I am primarily thinking of PDF files, which it does not seem to like). Do persevere - the bare URLs need all the help they can get ! Regards,
- Simple tool, yes, but then use it correctly please! This edit is not really useful: you didn't followed the {{Use mdy dates}} nor did you include the correct titles as in the last reference, nor dates, authors any other information. This is a mostly useless edit in my eyes. mabdul 14:32, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Terribly sorry that the Reflinks device did not produce the result you desired. I suggest you go and correct it, rather than wasting your time berating me. Mostly a useless post in my eyes.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:52, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Huch? You are responsible for your edits! I will cleanup the references later... I'm writing a new one and thus digging out many old references which are useful for other articles, but such edits like the one you did, doesn't help anyone. If you are to lazy to collect some extra information of the website and building a high quality encyclopedia and just playing a WP:MMORPG to gain more edits and rights, then you are simply at the wrong place! mabdul 15:00, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 14:52, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Equally, you are responsible for your posts. Tell how how an editor of almost seven years standing and nearly 70,000 edits (approximately 15,000+ of which were made via Reflinks), is too lazy and feels the need to up his editing count ? Maybe you are at the wrong place - my talk page.
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:19, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- If 15k of your reflinks edits are similar to this one, then you should stop using reflinks. Being active at Misplaced Pages for a long time and/or having a high edit count doesn't have anything to do with quality. The example diff above does only show how reflinks shouldn't be used. See these talk as constructive criticism and change your edit behavior. I have seen that you have the autoreviewer right and collected many DYKs, so that I'm even more confused that you do (again: in my opinion) such bad and useless edits with reflinks. I don't want to beat anybody, but I do want build a good encyclopedia. (and I do believe you too!) mabdul 15:38, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Derek R Bullamore (talk) 15:19, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
Perhaps you would like to fix Boise State University, since my attempt to fix the refs there was reverted. Maybe you'll have better luck. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 17:32, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Nice try, but from the editing history and article's talk page, its looks like you are trying to lead me into a bear trap. I'll decline, if it is all the same to you.
